Taking Home Delivery (of my car) Advice
Hi All
I take delivery of my shiny new Scirocco next Tuesday. It's being driven on a covered transporter (from a VW dealer in Scotland) and delivered to my house. Are there any tips about the best handover procedure given that it'll be on my drive?
• What if I encounter a problem (say damage to an alloy wheel or paint)
• What if it's raining (I need to check the bodywork carefully)
• What if the MDI cable is missing (do I reject the car)
• Is there much the delivery guy can do to iron out any problems (if there are any)
Anybody who has been through this experience - I'd like to hear your advice please.
Thanks
Gary

Reject the car if the MDI cable is missing?! NO!! Just ring the dealer up at the time, state the cable is missing - you could get the delivery driver to confirm this, and document it. They could then pop one into the post for you. But hopefully it'll be there.Gary_Monkey wrote:What if the MDI cable is missing (do I reject the car)
Good luck and enjoy!!!

Hi Mate , i had my previous car delivered to my home and the best bit of advice is ...........Try and contain your excitement ! Take your time and look over the bodywork and wheels very carefully for dings and scratches . You'll almost certainly have to sign a form to say there's no damage. To my regret I didn't notice a ding in my brand new mk5 Golf Gti until it was to late . If there are any problem don't be afraid to point them out and the dealer can rectify.
Hopefully all will be well and then you can start enjoying your new arrival!
Best of luck

I was kinda kidding about the MDI cable It's just that a few folks have found them missing on delivery.
The problem with me is that my car is being supplied from a dealer in Scotland so I can hardly pop in and discuss problems etc (me being based in Cheshire).
Thanks for the tips Martdy.

get the dealer to confirm to you all options have been fitted and ipod lead is present before it leaves, its easier for them to fix any problems before it leaves and double check for any body damage,
will be hard as driver may be trying to get you to sign the car off quickly so he can get back to scotland, make him a cup of tea and take you time to check it over,
have you considered going to collect car youself?

If you've a decent camera I'd use it, and from every angle. I think mine got delivered with a scuff to the n/s wing mirror which I never noticed till I cleaned the car and then had no way of proving it was already there.
Also if you've a form to sign saying "no damage" I'd insert the word "obvious" between "no" and "damage" if you can.

Re: Taking Home Delivery (of my car) Advice
I got a car from Jamjar.com a few years ago and it had scuffs on the wheels that I had not noticed from the strops that had secured it to the trailer.
I would pay particular attention to those areas and make sure I was present during the unloading.

Re: Taking Home Delivery (of my car) Advice
I took delivery of my car from dealer in Stockport (live in London), it was actually DRIVEN down by a 'professional' driver i.e. some old guy. Was pretty nervous about this but at the end of the day there is not much difference between a transporter and driven, some argue its better driven as it deters from the damage that can be done by chuck blocks, straps etc.
Anyhow it got delivered and was all fine, had a small stone scratch obove headlight on wing due to some grit flying up on the route down. Just make sure if you have this to note it on the delivery documents (all copies) and get the dirver to sign. If he refuses then say you are refusing the car and get on the phone to the dealer.
For me the dealer paid for a Dent Devil guy to come out and he buffed it out - no issues.
People get quite het up about it being delivered but I dont think its a big deal so long as you inspect and note any damage
P.S. If its wet and you cant do a fair assessment then write on the delivery documents this point, I believe (but am not a lawyer!) that this could protect you should it become an issue with the dealer

Some people who have taken delivery have subsequently found scuffing on the underside of the bumper at the front presumably from loading / unloading, so i would check there.

Re: Taking Home Delivery (of my car) Advice
This is all great advice.. keep it coming.
Just to let you know I take delivery of the car on Tuesday 10 Nov. So only next week. It's coming down on a transporter. I had the option of two guys driving it down to me but I didn't like the idea. I want to be the first person to drive it any considerable distance, plus, it could get damaged on the way down (it's a long way from Scotland to Cheshire).
My main worry about next Tuesday is if it rains when I do the handover (and I bet it does). I won't be able to check the bodywork properly. I shall definatly make a note on the delivery note!
My next opportunity to check the car properly in daylight won't be until Sat 14 Nov. This is not ideal. What if I spot a howler on the alloys or paintwork? I would have had the car 5 full days and the dealer could get funny if there is a problem. Let hope not eh.
All advice and tips been useful so far. Thanks
Gaz
