Have almost asembled them now, unfortunately they are of a type that requires tools (Allen key) to take it on and off the car. Got locks though.

That's probably not such a bad thing at the end of the day, makes it harder to nick anyway.

pants camera phone but you get the idea. I'll stick this in the for sale section later so as not to clog up this thread.

Hey, I'm getting my Sciroccco in the next few weeks, would you say that the rack from micks garage is good quality? I was worried it might scratch the paintwork. It looks good on the car, low profile and not too bulky. Thanks for your help.

I bought Candy Monsters bars off him and used it for a 700 mile round trip with a canoe on the roof. Very happy with it, went on easily enough and no scratches.

Re: Has anyone found a roof rack that fits their Scirocco?
Hi, Have recently been in touch with Thule regarding this question. I already have a Thule roof bar system for carrying my bikes which I used to fit to my Corrado but wanted to know what I needed to adapt the system to fit the Rocco. The answer from thule is as follows:-
There is a new kit coming soon for the Scirocco, with the relevant parts being the TU754 feet, the TU762 bars, and the TU1631 adapter kit. You can also fit the optional TU544 locks to this.
If you already have locks they can be swapped across. With regard to the bars, the ones you need are 135cms long, and have the rapid system slot in the underside at each end. If your existing bars are the right length, have a long slot in the underside at each end, and are not rivetted to the old feet, then you can use them again. Our feeling is you will probably need a new pair of bars.
Availability of the fitting kit TU1631 is the problem, Thule have told us that it will be available from the end of January but there is no sign of Thule UK having it in stock at present, so it is not listed on our website. As soon as we can get hold of this kit it will appear on the site, but it may be worth checking other Thule dealers like Halfords in case they get hold of some first.
Once you have the steel bars in place the bike carriers will fit straight on, the profile of the bars has not been changed.

the 1631 kit is now an available option on http://www.roofracks.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; although I haven't spoken to anyone there to confirm they have it in their warehouse.

Having spent AGES looking for bars and rack to put on my Roc, I bought theseretsila wrote:the 1631 kit is now an available option on http://www.roofracks.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; although I haven't spoken to anyone there to confirm they have it in their warehouse.
http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehs ... kage=15432
for a recent holiday to France. Drove about 2,000 miles whilst away (mostly with the bikes on top). Cost me about 15% more in fuel (or there abouts).
Kept speeds relatively low - generally between 120 and 135 (kph) on the autoroutes.
I'd recommend them, particularly for the price I got them at - just under £200. The bars on their own are currently £124.
I spoke to both my local VW dealer and Halfords (I know) about using a rear mounted carrier. Both said that they wouldn't be suitable because of the plastic spoiler above the rear window, not enough support there apparently.
Just thought I'd share my pen'oth!
