ipod and rns-510: VERY VERY LAGGY!
is it just me or does anybody else find that the media in interface for the ipod is RIDICULOUSLY SLOW!!!
its actually starting to really annoy me now... i'm either gonna have to download it all to the hardisk (difficult as i have more music than the 30gb HDD minus maps can hold) or connect the ipod's headphone 3.5mm jack directly to the aux in port on the armrest (not ideal as it won't work through the steering wheel )
i was thinking that maybe its because i have a fancy ipod touch that its being all laggy... perhaps a good old fashioned ipod classic would work better?
anybody else had this problem and if so, any solutions available?
also, when listening to songs, the music skips about a second or two after the track begins. again i think its something to do with the crappy user interface...

As I mentioned on the other forum but for the benefit of all on here, I have the RNS510 and have no issues with lag. Also using the new firmware. Forgot to mention in my other post, there are reports of faulty ipod cables causing issues which have been replaced under warranty.

RTFM - You can only copy music from a CD or an SD card to the HDD. Once there is music on it. It's selectable under "Media". My opinion, and this may just be a coincidence - I have a 30gb classic, and this does seem laggy. It takes a while to skip etc. However, my partners nano [which I try to avoid as much as possible!] loads a treat. She doesn't have any where near the amount of songs as me, so maybe that helps explain it?
My 30gb classic - approx 3000songs
Her 8gb nano - approx 800songs

Over 2000 songs on my iphone 3Gs and it's not laggy at all. Get the cable checked.

I use the 120gb classic with no probs of lag (also have sat nav). I have about 2700 tracks. One thing it does do though that is very annoying is play a very short blip of the next track when changing from one to the other before it starts properly...

Re: ipod and rns-510: VERY VERY LAGGY!
As above, I have the 120GB classic, using via the RCD510. Ipod if full of music and podcast audio, 7000 music tracks. There is a slight delay of about a second when skipping tracks, but I get this anyway when using the Ipod, guess it's just the time for the unit to access the index / hard disc. May 8GB nano does have a faster access time. Have also noticed the slight blip when a new track starts. There's discussions elsewhere on the pauses between tracks and why this happens but not seen an answer yet on how to solve. So if you're listening to a track that fades into the next track then you will get a slight blip / pause. I think if you want fast access to a reasonable number of tracks then a flash memory Ipod or a memory stick is the way to go, but if you want your whole music collection with you then the slight delay is going to be there. Also, has anyone yet found an answer to skipping through a long MP3 / podcast track without having to keep your finger on the forward button for ages? OK with a short track but not for an hour long file.

Whoa! I've gone for the bog standard sound system in the car due to shortage of pennies. Will my iphone 3gs just connect via cable and play in the car?S8N wrote:Over 2000 songs on my iphone 3Gs and it's not laggy at all. Get the cable checked.
I'm a bit of a numpty technology wise, I'd already asked VW and they'd told me that I'd not be able to use my iphone as an ipod in the car.
Help!

Re: ipod and rns-510: VERY VERY LAGGY!
I find the RNS510 touchscreen annoyingly slow and unresponsive. I think it's partly because it uses a resistive touchscreen, rather than a capacitive touchscreen (like an iPhone does). Often I'll have to press something twice since it didn't work first time.
I find this problem persists whether I use the iPod, SD or HDD, and scrolling down the tracks/folders can be a pain.
