Factory alarm?
Dealer said my car 2.0 TDI has an immobiliser, but no alarm from the factory... but they did say that they'd install an aftermarket one for me...
But really I'd rather have the factory alarm if there is one. What are my options, or is the aftermarket alarm good enough?

Re: Factory alarm?
Blimey is this for real!
I must admit I've never checked the manual for an alarm, just assumed it would be there. An immobiliser might stop the car getting nicked but there's plenty of damage that can be done by some ASBO in the meantime!

Re: Factory alarm?
Well that's what I was wondering... it could just be dealer B.S. but better safe than sorry. I guess I wouldn't mind putting in aftermarket alarm, but I'd rather have the factory one if possible.

Welcome OisinT
if you have a look on the scirocco page on the vw website http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/sciro ... re/safety/ it states

Thanks Trix,
Just hope the configurator is correct in this respect as there are other areas where we know it isn't! According to the configurator, everyone with a GT is supposed to have an electrically adjustable drivers seat as standard!

Re: Factory alarm?
Mine has an alarm and immobiliser. I set the alarm off accidentally one day and it has the button on the B pillar to decativate the interior monitor and tilt sensor, it also has an immobiliser because a symbol of a key pops up for a second when you start the car. Its a GT Tdi 140. I have read elsewhere on here that cars for other markets dont come as standard with the alarm though. Cant remember where I saw it, but it was definitely on here. Is your car a UK spec car OisinT?

Re: Factory alarm?
Mine is Irish spec.
Re: Factory alarm?
According to the Volkswagen IE website, the alarm is an optional extra:
ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM "PLUS" incl. SINGLE DOOR OPENING € 382
ANTITHEFT ALARM SYSTEM "PLUS" €382
Isn't it the case that in the UK more manufacturers are meeting Thatcham standards which have to include an imobiliser and an alarm - sure I heard that on BBC news recently, but could be making it up.

Had a quick look at the configurator on the IE site, and it looks like the alarm is an extra, under "Safety" tab.OisinT wrote:Mine is Irish spec.
It lists "ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM "PLUS" incl. SINGLE DOOR OPENING" and "ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM "PLUS"", both for €382.
Re: Factory alarm?
In the UK alarm is def. a standard feature not an extra.

Re: Factory alarm?
Is it possible to buy the factory alarm and fit it myself? Like off of ebay or something?
Or is it better to just buy something like the Cobra 3868 and have it installed?

Re: Factory alarm?
A quick test....
Sit in the car and close the doors. Lock with the remote and wait 20 - 30 seconds for it to arm. Then move about inside - it should set the alarm off, if there's one installed.
Can't recommend any third party alarms as I've not fitted on for years.

Re: Factory alarm?
Yeah there's definitely not an alarm installed.
I think I'll contact someone about the Cobra 3868 - apparently it works though the factory fob and everything.

Re: Factory alarm?
Does this suggest that VW regards the UK as a higher risk place than Eire ?
