Need for Speed - Shift

Post by Deacon »

Any gamers? Anyone got this?

Picked it up today, it's got a few VAG cars on there including the 'Roc (mines presently modified with a few bits and pieces including the stage 1 bodykit with seems to be very similar to the StudieR/R20 kit. The game is by the peolpe who did Race Driver: Grid and shares much more with this than the old Need for Speed games. Seems like a decent game so far.

After playing it more it gets better as you level up and the cars you can access improve - it starts a bit too arcedey but gets a bit more sim like as you progress. It's not as good as Forza or Gran Turismo but it's not bad by any means. It's kept me quite for quite afew hours so far anyway!

Doh! The old red rings of death :(

I'm on my second - it's an elite as I heard they upgraded parts in the elite thought to be responsible for the problems, dunno if that's true or not though.

Not the rings of death but I wish it was. The console just freezes with no lights and Microsoft don't extend the warrenty for that even though it is a common problem.

Il just buy a new arcade and swap my hard drive over, microsoft want a £80 to fix my one and I can get a new one for £100 with another wireless controller.

My first one was well outside the original year warrenty anmd they said I had to pay to have it repaired but I threw a bit of a strop on the phone that I'd been a loyal x-box customer since they had first come out but that I'd be switching to the PS3, etc, etc and they autorised the repair for free - may be worth a try!

dude it doesn't matter that the warranty has expired. The sale of goods act says that it should be good for three years from purchase.

Hope that helps.

I got the PS3 demo of this at the weekend.
Over clichéd lens flare and comedy handling. Delete!

Not tried the PS3 version but the 360 version is superb when you get into it. The handling on the 360 is VERY realistic and it does take quite a bit of getting used to after games like Forza and Gran Turismo but the more you play the better and better it gets (at least on the 360 imho). It seems to have quite a steep initial learning curve but then all seems to come together nicely. It is also the best in car view of any racer I've ever played - the sense of speed of something like the Veyron is just mindblowing.
