Start / Stop ... I hope its not like this :(
Hi
check this photo of the Golf R, taken at the Frankfurt car show, look WHERE they put the start/stop button....isn't it HORRIBLE???????
I hope its just an optional and not a standard on the new scirocco......

ah the text is far too small to tell that it says start/stop unless you've seen it in the flesh.
doesn't look that bad to me. means they can use the existing key hole instead of having to create a whole new dash. it would look a million times worse imo if they put a huge button elsewhere.

I don't know if you are joking or you are serious (its monday ) but for me its an horrible plase to put it, I would prefer it on the dash, like every other brand (bmw and mercedes in primis).Andy-GTI wrote:markito79 wrote:they put it under the steering wheel where the key normally goes in....trix wrote:sorry Markito

Re: Start / Stop ... I hope its not like this :(
i agree, it makes sense to put the button that starts the engine... where the other device that starts the engine, the key, would go.
it means they don't need to put a START button somewhere on the dash at least.
the only thing i don't get is... why not just have a key? you still have to put the key fob in this slot to start the engine... surely a key would suffice?

Looks like the keyfob stays in your pocket like the Renault Key Card system.pat15312 wrote:i agree, it makes sense to put the button that starts the engine... where the other device that starts the engine, the key, would go.

ok so its not ideal Markito but having seen cars such as the mini where there is a great huge hole to slot the key in the dash & a rather large start stop button hovering over it or the button smack bang in the middle of the dash for other manufacturers I personally think its quite subtle & although looks abit cobblesed together i'd rather that than a large fugly button in the middle of what is currently a nice dash layout spoiling it.

I do find that having a traditional key does mean inevitably you do end up scratching the area where the key goes in, due to not quite getting it exactly straight in the hole from time to time... (no rude comments pls!)
That's where a start stop button should go! (right of the central air-vents). Key slots in underneath. Ergonmically worked fine for me for a few years.

I would have prefered VW to have left the current car how it is until they had enough time and resource to design a nice looking stop/start button.
The shot of the BMW 3 series does look cleaner and more professional than what VW are proposing. You must agree?

Sounds like the button would be ideal for you trix. None of that exhausting pushing in keys and turning them to start the car - just push one button.trix wrote: i can see it says that now i've made it large & zoomed in but two clicks is far too much work for a monday

Personally I'd expect the start button to be in a prominent position in the middle of the dash, not hidden behind the steering wheel. As already said - its a cheapo option from VW
