Scirocco GT’s new engine delivers more power

Post by viper17 »

My salesman has just sent me this e-mail, my order has not been confirmed yet, fingers crossed

From production week 45, the Scirocco GT 2.0-litre TSI gains an extra 10PS power output and will be more economical than the current engine.
The new 210PS engine will have an RRP of £500 more than the outgoing 200PS engine.

All customer-tagged orders placed by close of business on 10 September for the 200PS that are built with the new 210PS engine will be price-protected. From this point, no more factory orders for the GT 200PS can be placed.

Technical information for the new 210PS engine is not expected to be available until early October. The new engine is being announced early because of the high demand and subsequent extended lead times that, in this case, may affect the specification a customer receives compared with their order.

Please notify customers of this change.

Volkswagen.co.uk will be updated on 17 September

Mine is due to be built around week 42-43, I going to ask to push it back by a couple of weeks. After all there is no point waiting this long and having something which out of date when it is delivered!! It will have a big impact on the second hand values when the younger mod squad come to buy them!!

I've now managed to push my build date back to week 45!! :D New engine for me!!

But does it also mean that the car comes with the GTI's XDS electronic differential lock?

Well.............................crap. What vw did is really unfair. I am happy for everyone who got the new engine really. But for the ppl who already have the car (like me) really got nailed. I mean the mk6 golf gti was launched and the same time as the scirocco. At first everyone judged the scirocco's cabine as boring do to the mild modifications, but whatever everyone bought it. Then VW pulled out a cheap stunt by inserting the new steering wheel. When this came out ppl where happy they had ordered their car durring this modification period. But now, i mean WTF, a new engine. Whats next the passat cc alcantra seats??????????????? The realle question here is why didnt VW do all these small modifications (aka steering wheel speedometer engine) when they launched the car (at the same time the mk6 was launched)?????????????

Don't the remaps cost about £500 and give you ~260hp?! I'll be happy to do this if I want more power so I don't think the new engine is such a big deal.

Every six months or so they will alter the spec or options list in some way, it happens with every car from every manufacturer. If you are going to keep a car two or three years then there are going to be loads of changes in that time. If you keep waiting for the next lot of changes you would never buy a car in the first place. The Scirocco is great regardless of whether you got the first one in the country last year or are just getting it now.

I'm with raffoul232 on this one

I ordered mine in March, just before the MY 2010 rumours started,
I couldn't get any info from my salesman until the day before I picked it up 4 months later, so the waiting time was not much fun !

In the end I was lucky & got a 2010 but if I hadn't I'd have been seriously pissed off

The engine change doesn't concern me as I have the 1.4 but I understand those who have the 200bhp model could feel a little cheated to say the least
I can just imagine how I would feel if they upped the 1.4 to 180bhp like in the Seat Cupra

I do think VW should have finished developing the car before they started selling it, reminds me of Microsoft !!!

VW can't develop a car and then just leave it with no further changes until they replace it years later. That's not realistic.

I think the changes to the Scirocco are maybe getting a bit more compounded by the long lead time, as you could potentially order a car and wait 5 months then find it's been updated a couple of weeks later. Having said that I'm not sure what VW can do to avoid this ever being an issue.

The main point I'm making is that although it would be nice to have the very latest vesion with all the changes, what I've got is exactly what I ordered. I was happy enough with the specification to spend all that money on it, so why should I be unhappy now I have exactly what I ordered?

Correct

Vw developed a 200PS unit for the launch of the rocco, then evolved it into a 210ps unit for the GTI and is simply reducing cost and duplication by standardising the engine across the range.

Its hardly a big deal, 10ps, WOW

the cynic and conspiracy theorist in me always thought 200ps was a convenient figure by VW given they had a load of Mk5 GTIs to get shot of, confounded by the remap figures that are floating about fo cars with these engine

i noticed the rocco GT is getting a very expensive car imho, having priced one last without nav i was hitting the mid £27ks without nav, not to mention you then have to lower it :eyepop:

I have to agree the price of the Scirocco is definately getting up there since I purchased mine back in June 08. The though of £500 extra for 10PS and the possibility of a higher insurance group. It makes me think there are more negatives than positives....

the 200ps is so much fun I just grin everytime I see open road. Like others have said, buy the 500 quid remap for 250+ps if your really that bothered. I doubt anyone would be able to tell the 200 apart from the 210 anyhow in the real world :)

Let's agree one one thing at least, which ever one you get it's still better value and a more unique driving experience than a Golf GTI!!
