Scirocco pricing; then and now

For those of you that got your orders in before the first price increase in June, you will know that you saved quite a considerable amount.
Now the prices have gone up again!
So why not play the "how much could you have paid for your car" game!
The car I purchased back at the end of May was £23500
The same car today specced up on the VW website is £25700, an increase of £2200!
Also, i'm sure people ordering their cars today are finding it harder to negotiate on price due to the massive demand for the roc...
So how much did you all (sort of) save?

Mine works out as about £2200 as well using the figures on the order form but one thing to be aware of is that sometimes dealers will write down a higher value for your part-ex than you are actually getting as a way of 'spreading' the disocunt around - I used to work for Ford and this happend all the time. The VW dealer did this with my car and wrote down a figure inflated by £500 so in reality I saved £2700 compared to if I was doing the deal now (although obviously my part-ex would have been worth less 8 months later)

Quite a substantial saving really!

Just re-specced my model. Ordered at the end of Jan and collected in April.

If I'd ordered now the total cost before discounts would have been £26250.
The same spec back in Jan would have cost £24605 but after haggling an 8% discount I paid £22694.
That is £3556 less than todays list price which aint bad.
If I remember rightly I think there was a price increase back in February as well as the one in June.

At the time of ordering I also enquired about exchanging my 11 year old Peugeot 306XSi but was only offered £600 by the dealer.
In the end I sold it via an ad. in Autotrader for £1800 which was an added bonus.

About £1500 more now for me.

BUT I would have got an extra grand for my old car under the scrappage scheme so £500 difference doesn't sound that much really.

Yes I read that although the new car market has slumped during the recession the second hand car market has been booming.
Many people that might have bought new before the slump have bought second hand cars.

You guys still have it easy. Scirocco pricing went up GBP5000 in 5 months here.

I ordered my car mid-March, and list price was £27,050 (after the end of Feb price increase).
I paid £24,640 after discount (8.9%)
The list price is now as of today £27,785, so saved a good £735.
Also my part-ex was over-valued by £500 at the time to sweeten the deal (though still lost big time on it), and since it was less than a year old at the time, it'd have plummeted even more in value over the last 5 months.

So overall, believe or not one of the best financial decisions I've made this year! - Oh, and it's great fun too!

My car is listed at £22045 on the VW website as of today and I am paying £19400 for it so I'm pretty happy with that!

Bought mine early doors so pre discounts and VAT changes but mine is £1460 more on the configurater - ouch!!

I ordered mine on the 6th March 2009 and collected it on the 17th April 2009 from the UK.

I get a government discount and don’t pay tax whilst in Germany so for my Scirocco 2.0 GT FSi it came in at.

Basic Vehicle: £17,034.00
Factory Extras: £739.00
OTR costs: £445.00
Non VAT extras: £55.00

Total paid: £18,218.00

If the new prices keep going up and demand in the second hand market stays high, when I sell it next April it will have had little or no depreciation on what I paid for it.

If I was to buy at todays UK prices (including VAT) it would cost £22,825 from the price list so a saving of £4607.

Not bad a bad deal if you can get it.

I ordered August 08 , finally arrived for 1st march 09 - yes thats a 7 month wait! Anyway, paid £23800 via Broadspeed. Just checked the configurator - £27500

I ordered in December 08 and got mine in March 09. Paid £22,750 (list was about £23,900 I think) and the site is now quoting £24,990 excluding the sills which don't appear there.

Having said that, If I had known I could order a LHD model from the UK as AL1874 did, I would have saved a fortune with the exchange rate as it is now !

Mine is actually a RHD model, but because of the hassel of selling a LHD model before I return to Scotland it just saves a lot of hassel to drive on the wrong side of the road for the time I'm over here.

The problem I can see is not buying the car in the UK to whatever specification you like (LHD or RHD ect.), but regestering it in France once you export it as there may be import taxation to be taken into account and that may negate any potential savings that the exchange rate has to offer.

I don't register my vehicles with the Germans authorities but with the British Forces out here so avoid the tax in accordance with the NATO agreement.

I can't use the VW website just out of interest can some one check my price on 2.0 GT TSi, manual gearbox, matallic paint, folding mirrors and reversing sensors and post it for me.

my car was a list price of £20085 when i ordered in june which i got a healthy discount & scrappage off, same car now.... £20665 & i will be/already have spent that discount on cleaning products & accessories

Thanks for that Trix, I was not sure if I had worked it out correctly.

One of the advantages of life out here is it is against the law to wash your car in the street so lazy people like me don't look out of place when driving a dirty car and if it does need a spruce up it is a quick run to the carwash.

Yours will no doubt be spotless from the day and hour up pick it up till you trade it in, you put me to shame.

Day maybe, hour sadly not, the drive from the dealer to home is at least 3 hours.
if you saw my current car you would wonder how i am ever going to manage to change my ways & keep the roc clean but i certainly plan on trying.
