Door noise
Picked up a 1.4TSI yesterday. Noticed that I could hear road noise towards the back of each door (metal part of door not window) as if the seals aren't sealing correctly, and that the windscreen is slightly misting up when the car was parked outside for a couple of hours (which would indicate a leak).
Anybody had this problem? is it common?

Re: Door noise
VWs are crap for misting windows in winter - why don't they have heated widscreens like most of the Ford range?
But a misting window doesn't necessarily mean a leak. If it's been warm in the car and it's given time to cool, then you can get mild condensation on the inside windows (misting), especially if the ambient air is humid (like after having had warm air blowing into your car on a wet day.
The scirocco does have a little more road noise around the doors than a Golf, but this is probably down to the frameless windows.

Re: Door noise
My wife has a Golf and has the same misting problem. My previous car a Brera had frameless windows and that was very quiet around the windows. I'm sure that the noise is not coming in around the window seals but more the back of the door towards the door lock.

Re: Door noise
When the road is wet and the tyres are throwing up spray, I too can hear this noise from the bottom of the drivers door but only when doing over 50. Never reported it to VW and there are no apparent leaks so happy to live with it for now.

Yes thats the noise I get with both doors, I'm also getting a creak at the back of the drivers door, I will leave the car into VW in a week or two.sir_rocco wrote:When the road is wet and the tyres are throwing up spray, I too can hear this noise from the bottom of the drivers door but only when doing over 50. Re: Door noise
I remember a thread from a while back to do with wind noise, some owners were experiencing excess wind noise from the door frame and they took then to the dealer for a minor adjustment of the door which as far as I know cured the problem.
TÜV Approved, Nürburgring Tested.

Re: Door noise
Had a look at the drivers door today, I think the creaking noise I'm hearing is from the B pillar trim that the seat belt goes into. The trim seems to be a bit loose, cars going into the garage on Tuesday for them to look at these problems. Not impressed with the build quality now that the car is going into the dealer one week after delivery.

Re: Door noise
Have you thought of fitting front mud flaps to stop the spray? it will also stop stone chips and mud going up the door.tony4147 wrote:Yes thats the noise I get with both doors, I'm also getting a creak at the back of the drivers door, I will leave the car into VW in a week or two.sir_rocco wrote:When the road is wet and the tyres are throwing up spray, I too can hear this noise from the bottom of the drivers door but only when doing over 50. Re: Door noise
Good idea about the mud flaps. Went out in the car today me sat in the back with my wife driving. The creak appears to be coming from the headlining and the plastic trim on the B pillar. The headlining seems to be loose, with out doubt if VW don't sort it I will reject the car, I wasn't expecting to have build quality problems after owning an Alfa.

Well I hope it doesn't come to that, but I can't keep the car if it is going to creak everytime I'm on a rough piece of road.

Mine has this problem too. Going into the dealers week after next for a couple of days so they can try and fix the B pillar rattle.tony4147 wrote:Had a look at the drivers door today, I think the creaking noise I'm hearing is from the B pillar trim that the seat belt goes into. Will they be able to fix it and not make another part of the trim rattle.

Re: Door noise
Left mine in at the dealers tonight, will let you know how I get on. The technician did say that the headlining didn't look that secure.

Re: Door noise
Collected the car tonight, service were all smiles said they have fixed the rattles in the doors and pillars. So I go to the car and guess what there is a parking dent on the rear quater, I get the service manager who tells me they recorded it on the paperwork when they started working on the car, the guy is lucky he's still standing. Any way they will collect and repair next week, they have been told if it's not right then they had better find a new car. They didn't put up a fight about fixing it. Have lodged a complaint with VW who seen understanding.
I know the car was unmarked when I left it in as I washed it last Sunday then put it I'm my garage. Monday went to work in a secure carpark with nobody parked near me and then went to the garage.
The car has gained about 100 miles on the clock as the dealer was taking the car home to listen out for the rattles.
To think i part exed an Alfa and was expecting better service with VW, I never had anything like this with my Alfa.

Re: Door noise
The cars going back to the dealer today to have the dent repaired even though they deny all knowledge of it occuring with them.
The rattles in the doors appear to have been cured but there is a squeak originating from the drivers window when driving on a bumpy road. The dealer has told me he can you no more with the window, which to me is a shocking statement from a main dealer
as I'm sure thats not the way VW intend the car to be. The windscreen is still misting up so they are going to take a look at that but again the main dealer is telling me that there is probably nothing that he can do with that.
This car has already been in the garage longer than than the Alfa Romeo Brera I part exchanged which I had owned for two years. Considering that Alfa have a reputation for poor dealers and build quality I am very unimpressed with VW.
The car itself is a smashing car
, love driving it, perforamce wise it kills the Brera but the dealer is ruining the ownership experience.

Re: Door noise
Well there is a recorded delivery letter on its way to VW, listing every thing that has happened following a conversation I had with VW last week. I understand a new car can have minor issues but for a service manager to turn round and say 'I can do no more' is poor and then denting the car as well and denying it is just not on.
Like I said above Alfa dealers are supposed to be bad but this is one of VW premium dealers who appartently are able to offer larger discounts on new cars duw to their customer satisfaction surveys.
The car has been collected this morning and will hopefully be ready on Thursday or Friday but I have absolutly no confidence in the dealer retifying the faults.
