engine not always idling correctly

Post by adw555 »

So, 5 times in the last 3 days I've come to a stop at traffic lights/junction and the revs haven't dropped back to the normal 900 rpm..they drop to about 1100/1200....only happens occassionally and if I move off, then it's fine at the next junction..

Car has only done 200 miles...and it's the 2.0 TSI

Anyone had any similair issues ? ...really don't want to have to go back to the stealer, but I guess there's no option :(

both, first time the car had only been running a couple of minutes and the other 5-6 times it's been warm and been running for at least 20 miles.

I am having the exact same problem. I seem to be happeining when im driving on high speeds or high revs, Then when I slow down on and stop on a traffic light the rev pointer remains higher than usuall, but after about 20 - 30 second the rev pointer drops to it normal position.

If anybody knows about this , pls can tell me if this is normal or is there somthing wrong?

You'd expect an engine to idle a bit faster when cold - so that could be normal.
With some turbos you need to let the car idle for a while after hard driving before turning the engine off - allows the turbo to spin a bit longer and cool themselves down. Maybe the faster idling when hot after some hard driving is something similar to protect the turbos.
Just a guess.

This issue is starting to really annoy me. The stealer hooks it up to vagcom but it reports all is well. They say all they can do is hook a laptop up to it and have some loon from the workshop drive it about for a week...yea right!...I'd rather just sell it ..owned it for 3 weeks and now sick of the sight of it :(

Sounds normal to me, your only talking 100 to 200 revs difference, this could be due to temperature, both engine and external or simply engine load. I would be worried if its idle speed was constantly changing, but otherwise not.
