Bluetooth (Factory Option)

Post by littleyellowspider »

All

I'm going to sound like a bit of a luddite here, but I've never had a car with Bluetooth before. Now, I have specced it on my forthcoming Scirocco and just wanted to know if the assumptions I made (I know I shouldn't have assumed) were right.

Assumptions:
1. My Sony Ericsson K850i is compatible
2. On getting in to the car, with my phones bluetooth on, I will need to connect to the car
3. Upon connection, I will be able to scroll through contacts etc on the RCD510 screen using the multifunction steering wheel
4. Speaking/listening will be via a 'hidden' speaker/mic.

I've been reading that there are 2 differing bluetooth options - I was unaware of this. The one I have chosen is the £350 option.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

Well as far as i know ther 2 options are factory fit and dealer fit. The later of the 2 seems to be a lot cheaper and just as good but don't worry about that now because you have already commited. You seem to be write on all your points
1. I have had a K850i on a bluetooth system that i have ATM (not a roc) and works perfectly
2. Correct and you will only have to do this once from there on it should connect automatically
3. Oui
4. The standard speakers will play the sound from the phone and there will be a mic either hidden at the top of the A pillars or inside the interior light switch on the roof (on most cars anyway)

Hope this helps
My car is now for sale, for just £16,000, fair price so please no silly offers :)

If you have the premium Bluetooth option then I am afraid that the SE phones are not compatable as they do not support Rsap

I just ticked Bluetooth. It costs £350. How can you tell if it's the 'premium' one or not?

Just checked on vw.co.uk and the £350 is the Premium Rsap only Bluetooth, but you would be better checking with your dealer. I am afraid that this will not work with SE phone. It only seems to work with Nokia and Samsung.

Thanks all. Have checked and you're right, it won't work with SE phones. Looks like it's pretty pointless speccing it then.

Hi S

I've taken it off this afternoon. Car was still in 'Factory Order' (?) stage awaiting to go 'Frozen', so I was able to take it off. It's not the end of the world, just a useful 'nice to have' but certainly not essential.

I work in Great Yarmouth, so went to see my mate Andrew at Robinsons in Lowestoft.

What about yourself?

Slighty more expensive but it is still possible to get full integration into the RCD510 with a 3rd party bluetooth for example

The FISCON can be bought from http://www.fiscon.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , and if you use discount code scirocco123 you can save about £37...

The Basic Plus kit is the one to go for, as it operates with the touchscreen (RCD-510 or RNS-510), whereas the Basic kit only works via the multi-function steering wheel or stalk.

I have ordered one, should arrive tomorrow :)

Fitting apparently is easy, just remove the headunit, plug the kit in and route the microphone to the top of the offside (driver's) A-pillar, get someone with VAGCOM to code it for you, and job done.
