Good roads for driving in South East of England?

Post by jc74 »

Ok, will finally have some free time to just go and take the car out for a bit of a run...

Does anyone know any decent roads in the South East around Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Kent area?
Preferably national speed limit, no accident blackspots, good visibility, very little traffic, relatively well maintained, and not too many speed cameras!

I've looked on various sites, but most such routes are either in Scotland, Wales, the North of England, or the South West!

Any ideas anyone?

I was thinking of something on the lines of:-
http://www.speedlimit.org.uk/drivingroads.html

However, none of those are near the South East :(

Brand's hatch is an interesting idea, though I was just thinking of nice roads to drive on, rather than race around at high speed.

A blast from TunbridgeWells to Ashford is always fun. A262 / A28

Then pop down from Ashford to Rye. A2070 / A259

After that, another blast back up to Tenterden on the B2082

Stop at pub for a beer and to wipe bugs off bonnet.

Plenty of nice roads around Ongar, Stapleford Abbotts, Abridge and Theydon Bois more so out towards Ongar let me know if your in the neck of the woods and I'll take you on some of my favourite runs on sunny days you just need to be aware of the bikers as they use the same roads for playtime too :)

Here is a vid of one of the runs I use frequently

Good call, I regularly blast around the lanes twixt Loughton and Brentwood.

In fact, that's where I did my test drive in the Roc. As I recall the dealer looked a bit worried when I gave it a big boot full at the Stapleford Roundabout. :D

The other half got her TSi from there, but mine's a company car, and for some reason it came all the way down from Leicester.

Thanks for the tip, it's not too far from where I live, so might give it a blast some point, though will probably be spur of the moment ;)
Thanks fot the offer - perhaps it could be another opportunity to get a few people together - fastest drivers go at the front though :)
