Spiders and wing mirrors

Post by Kev »

What is it with them?
How do they get up there!

I cleaned the car saturday and got rid of a web covering the whole of the drivers mirror. I wonder why they like it in there so much.

A couple of years ago I was driving to work and there was a bee caught in the web of my mirror on the Puma. The next 15 mins, while I was sat in traffic, was a titanic struggle as the bee tried to escape and the spider waited its chance to get in for the killer bite. The bee eventually managed to break free and the chance of breakfast was gone!

I always find they take up residence on the non-sunny side wing mirror pod.

They fly in on a thread of their silk. Had one cheeky one board a train last week before me by that method.

23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,

If you catch them and turn them over you'll find that there is actually a VW part number stamped on their belly - every new VW is supplied with one. I even heard a rumour that in the German Scirocco accesory brochure you can get a premium edition which has 'Scirocco' on its back...

Whoah! So I am not the only person with one in the wing mirror. Every morning I wake up and there is a new web on the drivers mirror...!! Weird!

Ditto to all the above. I also have one that lives somewhere inside my car and builds webs when I'm at work. It's amazing what a webby mess the little bugger can make in 7-8 hours!

Years ago I had a spider living inside my car and I had to turn off the interior ultrasonic sensors to stop the little bugger setting off the alarm during the night.

I was well please when I finally managed to track him down (as were the neighbours)

I got one living in each mirror.
Seems they moved in real soon after I got the car. I've got a suspicion they are homing spiders that used to live in my pug.
It's amazing how the little blighters seem to survive the washings it gets too.

washed my car today and found a little blighter hanging on for dear life. Didn't have the heart to spoil his fun though. I love being in the roc so i guessed so did he! even if the orange mirrors didn't put him off. :shake:

I had one in my drivers side mirror. I think they definitely live inside behind the mirror. I managed to flick one off into the road (miles away from home) when it was out building its web. However, a new web seems to have been built within a couple of days, so there must be a waiting list for the mirror slot...

Maybe there's something that can be bought and applied to the mirror to deter them from nesting there?
