Question regarding DRLs and electrics

Post by Ludsci »

Hey!

I have a Scirocco 1.4 TSI 2010 which has been modified by the previous owner. The front is swapped to one similar/(identical?) to the R-variant Sciroccos so it has these longer/thinner DRL's in the front and no round foglights.
Like a month or so after acquiring the car one of them stopped working, so I figured I should buy some new ones. However, the first pair I bought didn't even fit the mounting brackets or the cutout in the black plastic grill. Which makes sense because those I ordered with my VIN in mind.
I then ordered ones that should fit the R-variant and it fits like it should.

SO, I was notified by the inspector when it was in for inspection that these DRL's should dim down whenever the headlights are on or something like that. Mine are always the same brightness.
My question is then if someone else has had this issue and might know why this might be, and then of course also what I may have to do to fix it. It might be a difficult question to answer especially when my explanation might be quite vague.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Yes, daytime running lights must either go out or be dimmed to side light intensity when headlamps are lit, as DRLs wouod cause serious dazzle at night. How you achieve that with a hybrid setup like on your Scirocco, I wouldn't like to guess
