Enabling mirror tilt

Post by Sari »

Hi all,

I recently retrofitted powerfold mirrors to my facelift scirocco (67 plate). Whilst the power folding works great (Thanks UKLee for the guide!) I can't get the mirror tilt on reverse to work. I believe I do have the correct passenger mirror to support this function and I do get the 'Mirror Lowering' option on the MFD, however the actual tilt function doesn't seem to work at all when I try and set it following the instructions in both in the manual and from online. Any ideas?

parts used:
LH mirror 1K8 857 507R
RH mirror 1K8 857 508Q
mirror switch 1KA 959 565E

Door modules (original to the car, did not replace)
Driver side 5K0 959 793A software rev 2124
Passenger side 5K0 959 792A software rev 2162

Coding (OBDEleven):
09 Central Electrics - Mirror lowering with reverse gear - Active
52 Passenger Door - 0152374, the breakdown of which is:
- 2 Ambient mirror illumination
- 4 Mirror turn signal
- 16 Automatic run active
- 32 Mirror Heater
- 256 Seat memory and/or mirror with memory function
- 512 Right Hand Steering
- 4096 Folding Mirrors
- 16384 Window lowering for frameless windows
- 131072 Start/stop

Just checking that you have the mirror adjust control knob set to "L" (passenger mirror) when you select reverse. Also when in this configuration have you tried adjusting the mirror position to set the tilt position just incase the default and the tilt position are both the same?

Hi yes,

Unlock
ignition on
knob to L
select reverse
adjust mirror down
back to neutral ... nothing happens
drive off above 15kph (and 15mph for good measure) ... nothing happens. Mirror is still down

Well, you're doing everything right and the fact you get the option to tick in the MFD implies that the coding is correct. Sorry, can't be of any further help.

Well after a lot of digging around I managed to get it working:

I stumbled upon this thread, more specifically the rather long post by JonboyGTD and had the exact same issue/result:

By disconnecting the battery, leaving it for about 15 mins and hooking everything back up, all of a sudden mirror tilt now works!
