That one was a deliberate typo as not sure to what extent the swear police are active here. The Mazda was a surprisingly good drive - nicely accurate when pushing but civilised when taking a more relaxed approach. ESP cut in too quickly though as soon as there was any hint of a loss of traction (even when accelerating in second on a damp road).

Hi Guys,

I want to the local dealer and they told me "they don't have anything on the desktop to authorise them to do it"!!!

So I told them I have the procedure to follow for the VAGCOM and they said they would see if they could do it.

After waiting 30mins, they came back, lights still on and what would look like a hurridly put together email from HQ saying its a safety feature and they are not allowed to turn them off!

So I have just followed the procedure in the manual that came with my car - the left indicator and high beam - and voila, it worked, got a beep from the console and they are off!!!

I had my car in the dealers yesterday as they said they could do it no problem but they couldn't switch them off using the computer, the mechanic told me I can't switch them off it won't let me.

Steve is your car the 2010 model or 09, I've tried the indicator stalk method and it didn't work for me, can you tell me exactly what you did as I'd really like to get those lights off.

Mine is a 2010 ( MY or what ever it is - basically the latest changes - ie new wheel)

I tried it when I got it and didn't work but I powered through today, took about 10 attempts, was worried battery would go flat.

Basically, follow the instructions, you really have to makesure you push and pull down at the same time else it will not work. Once you have got a good pull down ( ) , turn the ignition on ( dont turn the engine on). Hold it there for at least three seconds and you will hear the beep from the dash. If you don't, you didn't push down and pull correctly.

I have now managed to get them off. Couple of tips. You pull the indicator stark toward you and hold it there. Also the light switch needs to be in the 'O' position and not in the auto position. I also had my foot on clutch when turning on the ignition. After 3 seconds you hear a beep and it's done.

ha. I thought he was quoting ME on the Mazda 3 as I wrote something similar. I also changed from a Mazda 3 sport. Must admit it was s good car but the scirocco def a big step up in the build quality department.

I don't really know what's the problem with the DRL's i don't mind them and also i heard in a few years they will be necessary on all cars

From 2011, there is a European directive that all new cars will have to have DRL's.

Vdub are doing it now. Turning them off now is not going to affect MOT's later on. As long as you dont turn them off on a car thats built from the date in 2011.

I think if you have xenon's then fine, but don't like the yellow tinge on mine so they've gone

I tried the pull back, stick down, ignition on technique over and over with no success. Just for the hell of it I tried stick down, pull back ignition on. WORKED FIRST TIME

Now I would like to say I'll turn them on again just to test it for everyone but I'm afraid I'm quitting while I'm ahead!

The DRLs on the xenons are halogen, a really dingy yellow bulb too. Maybe because they're going to be on a lot they're really long life bulbs. I'll change mine to something whiter when i get around to it. To be honest i'm not really bothered with that sort of thing but they are really yellow.

Has anyone got this working on a non-xenon 2009MY car and if so can you describe in detail what you did?

i.e.
1. Pull back and down together
2. Turn ignition on
3. Wait 3 seconds

etc etc.

I think as Spiney said the order is important

When the dealer did mine at pickup he followed the order carefully

First Indicate left & hold the stalk down to the left,

Then pull back the stalk and hold on high beams whilst still holding it down to the left

Then turn on the ignition for three seconds

This is confusing. When you pull the stalk down to the left it stays there itself as the indicator/parking light is on. So do you somehow pull it even further down or just pull it back? I've tried and tried this to no avail so I'm just trying to make sure I have the sequence 100% correct.

I just meant that he pulled it down to indicate left first, and then pulled back whilst still indicating rather than in the oposite order (he didn't pull back then indicate)

nope, stands for model year. It's from the olden days when a menufacturer would announce (and launch) their model range in the autumn for the following year.....
