Passenger seat stuck! will not slide

Post by Halil42 »

So I just recently bought a 2009 (58) 2.0TSI. I was enjoying it very much until yesterday the passenger seat stopped sliding forwards and backwards. The seat tilts fine and all three pins lift on both sides but one of the runners seems to be jammed and not moving. On further investigation the clip which holds the memory for the seat seems to be absent and is most likely stuck within the runner mechanism.
What is that memory clip part called?
How do I go about fixing this? I would start removing the seat but because I can't slide the seat back the bolts at the front end of the runners seem totally inaccessible!

UPDATE:

So after a lot of messing around at my local VW dealership and refusing quotes of several hundred £s to investigate the seat, we finally identified the correct part number (8T0898025), this is a kit of two memory clips, one for each side, cost about 20 quid for VW original ones (bump).

I managed to remove the old broken clip from the runner by basically jamming a screwdriver in there and wiggling about (the longer and thinner the better) and then repeatedly trying to move the seat back, eventually the destroyed clip came out and the seat was freed, it did take a couple of hours.

To fit the new clip just pop up the plastic guide sitting in the runner closest to the centre console or undo the rear spline bolt holding the runner to the chassis and slot it on and hey presto!
FYI the job of this memory clip is to hold the correct seat position after you tilt the seat forwards and backwards so it slides into your last seating position. It's also necessary for the seat to be pushed back and lock into place from the tilted forward position without needing to lift the clip again.

The problem with these clips is that the small plastic rod in the middle which holds the two sides of the clip togerher tends to break. This causes the clip to fall apart one day and get jammed. I strongly advise people to check their clips and replace them if they are not in good condition!

If someone is interested to see pictures of all the steps I can upload, what's the best way to add images here?

Huge thread resurrection but thanks for this. I had the same problem and it was this clip. I had to take the seat out completely and break the stuck clip out but now the seat is working correctly.
