Post by Fury1945 »

Hi
Has anyone replaced there front seats. What's the best way to disconnect? Just disconnect the battery first?

Definitely disconnect the battery first as you don't want one of the airbags in the seat to go off accidentally. Also double check the electrical connectors on the replacement seats match the existing connectors in the wiring loom as VW has a bad habit of changing them.

The official VW service manual says to TURN ON the ignition then disconnect the battery. Why? to dissipate electrical charge? this seems counter intuitive. I suppose from a safety point of view if you install the seat with the ignition on then reconnect the battery you are nowhere near the airbag ie not sitting in the car. But will it make the airbag light come on? the VW technicians would just cancel it. I dont have VAGCOM. Head scratcher.
