2009 TSI 2.0 single vs dual flywheel

Post by Solosheep »

Hello

I have a sticking clutch which sadly Turned out to be the slave and not a master cylinder. So a new clutch assembly required. I have been looking at kits and can see dual flywheel kits and single flywheel kits. The single kits are about £100 cheaper and from what I have read will still fit my car is this correct. The car is only worth about £4K so trying to keep the cost of this repair lower.

If anyone has advice would be great to hear. :)

Personally I would stick with the dual mass flywheel, as originally fitted to the car. I understand your trying to keep the costs down, however I firmly believe fitting a single mass flywheel would be false economy.

Why would it be false? Just curious?

VW are famous for cost cutting so if they thought they could have got away with a cheaper SMF at the factory, they would have.

Fitting a SMF is likely to cause more vibration and may make pulling away less smooth. The additional vibration may also put additional stress on other components.

If you intend to sell the car soon by all means fit a SMF but if you're spending the money and intend to keep it, fit a DMF.

Super advice there. I was looking at selling soon the weight of the SMF is the same as a DMF so maybe that will help. On the VWvortex it’s very mixed if it would make a massive difference. So I thought I would ask on this forum where people have the actual car. As it’s my wife’s car (now) as long as it works and she only drives very short distances I thought it might be ok?

If you fit a DMF, it will be OK. If you fit a SMF it might not be OK and then you've got the hassle and expense to change it again. For me, for the sake of saving £100 it's just not worth the risk and that's nothing compared to the grief your wife will give you. You pays your money you take your chance :)

I miss calculated it’s £250 more expensive-I think it will be ok though.
