Hi,
Just bought my first car, of which is a 1.4TSI. Some mods to it which I don't particularly like because it makes me look like a "boy racer" however i do love the car. I am just looking for advise on general things to worry about and get checked immediately. Any advise on maintenance much appreciated. Reading about pistons on my model worries me. Very pleased it has a timing chain over belt as they're expected to last a lifetime.
I am having a very unlucky experience so far, cant get the bonnet open. VW have quoted £410 to replace the latch and wiring. Absolute joke.
Battery had ran completely flat somehow. Which makes me thing there are some battery issues which I'm sure they will wake me up with a nice quote for tomorrow.
It has 19" Audi RS Wheels on which need major refurb. Gorgeous though. Exhausts are huge, quite annoyingly loud.
Little judders in 1st and 2nd gear when going quite slow.
Just bought a 2010 1.4TSI 123,000miles Need advise.

Congrats on your buy !
1st thing first, even though it has a timing chain I suggest that you get it a new chain (done by the garage of course) as it is known that they can stretch out due to a manufacturing issue.
- Get some new spark plugs
- Regarding the battery, buy a battery and replace it yourself as this is an easy job and saves you some money.
Can you tell more about judders, how slow are you going and if pushing down the pedal..do you still have the issue ?

Do a search on the bonnet release issue. You can remove the front right (assuming uk car) wheel and arch liner to get at the release cable. Then you can pull it with a pair of pliers or something forget the details but a search will find it.

If the car hasnt had a new timing chain ill advise you to get it done due to its mileage, i done mine at 100k miles as preventative Maintenance to find it was pretty stretched.
Also pistons i wouldnt worry too much about as long as its had a good service life you should be all good.
Get someone to push down on the vw logo as u pull the latch. That usually works for me whenever i get a car wid a stuck latch. Then spray WD40 n it should be good.
