Timing chain and tensioner life

So there are plenty of scare stories online talking of stretched chains, chains that jump and failed tensioners. This usually results in either catastrophic engine failure or best case scenario, £1500 to replace with suitable and upgraded parts.

Realistically, is this really such an issue or is it uncommon? How many 2.0 TSI (08/09/10) owners have had issues and at what mileage?

2010 tsi at 67k miles. My thread is active on here about the outcome lol.
