Fuel filler cap

Post by krakatou »

I have part number 3C0 201 553 E on the fuel filler cap. I can't find a new replacement, not even on ebay. Can anybody help me?

Can you identify which part on the diagram you are seeking?

Item number 40. The cap and cord that attaches to the car.

Here it lists two different part numbers discontinued but you may still be able to source them

If you can't find one online at one of the various companies that sell OEM parts then the only option is to buy from your local dealer.

Edit: I've just put the part number into Google and various options come back including some for sale on Ebay.

Is that a used part? I couldn't find anything new.

The parts on Ebay were used but there were other retailers offering new parts, although they might be pattern parts.

40 is the locking mechanism. It’s part 10 in this diagram. My cap shows part 3c0 201 553 E. I’ve traced it in another manual to a Passat code 3C0201550L. But can’t be sure.

I had the same problem, full tank down to about half a tank and the EML came on, clearing the fault rectified the problem for the time being. Then I replaced the cap with this one off eBay
----------------
Fuel Cap for VW GOLF POLO PASSAT TIGUAN TOURAN TFSI TDI Diesel/Petrol 2008-19

Item Condition:NEW

Item Part Number:3C0201553J

£15.00
----------------

These have a piece sticking out of the bottom to attach to the flap when filling up, there is also a strap.

Looks like the filler cap was changed in manufacture around 2012.

My original cap tie was attached to a lug but the replacement came with a pin, just cut off the lug and drilled a 6.5 mm hole in its place for the new part, now good as new.
