"VW connect" dongle vs Carista vs ODB-eleven etc...

Post by risingson »

I was given a VW "data plug" at my last service. Not using it, obviously! But can it be made to work with software like ODB-eleven? That would be good!

Does anyone on here have experience of using either Carista or ODB-eleven? I'm tempted to get one of them but not sure what's better. I'll probably make some mods over a short period of time and then probably not use it much after that!

Didn't know VW were still giving them out for free- a guy from sales I got friendly with at my local dealer told me they were 170 quid each come 2018. Mine & my GF's ended up on ebay soon after lol

Carista allows you to change quite a few things without going to the expense of VCDS which obviously does a lot more. The first thing I did was enable the big digital speedo in the main display.

I haven't tried it but I think that you can reset your oil and service indicators if you don't go to a VW garage to have it done

Yep, I gather the VW data plug isn't a genuine ELM327 device (whatever that is), because I downloaded an ELM327 identifier app that didn't recognise it. So it's Carista and the like I'm now interested in. Is there a list of what it lets you change on the scirocco anywhere? I reckon if people knew they'd get more sales!

I've just got Carista but can't see how to enable the big digital speedo.
How did you do it please?
Cheers

Just checked out the Carista App website. Is it good worth getting and will it work on my 2009 2.0 TSi?

Anyone know if Carista lets you enable fog lights as cornering lights?
