Rust on the inside of the trunk.

Post by Zanic L3 »

I've noticed that there is a bit of rust on 2 of the 3 screws inside the bonnet.

Any knows if this is a familiar spot to rust? It doesn't/didn't really bother me since it's on the inside of the trunk.
How comes this started rusting inside? Is it the screws? I got the car 3 months ago and it's sitting in a garage now idk about the previous owner tbh (maybe he left it outside 24/7).

What can I try to stop it/fix/clean it? Any advice?

If it’s coming from the inside out, might be worth contacting VW and see if they’ll offer to fix it under your corrosion warranty.

Rust

This is an identical problem that I posted on this forum - see my comment dated 14th May 2011 - with photographs. (post headed RUST! )

Warning - VW had it repaired under warranty - but it was back within a couple of months.

I am also sure that several others posted this similar problem.

Regards (and good luck)

Had same issue. Got a new tailgate replaced under warranty with revised drain holes.

Hello

I see one other has listed the same problem (Mr OCD) - but I am sure that there were SEVERAL owners whose car's were subject to the issue.

My car was registered on the 1st July 2009 (model year ten as it was fitted with the new steering wheel) - and it will be interesting to establish if all those others affected, were manufactured during the same year/period.

If so, - and you can collect the 'evidence' (photographs) then VW would have difficulty in denying a manufacturing/build problem.

Lets just hope that any of the other forum members who had the same fault read your article/post and offer their support.

Even after some time there were minor signs that the problem would perhaps re-occur - but my car was sold - and yes I bought a new Scirocco.

Ps It may be helpful if you changed your wording from trunk to boot.

Regards

Jeff
