Hungarian revo Stage 1 Scirocco

Post by SKGR »

Hi everyone,

I would like to show you my candy white beauty. I bought my car 3 years ago and just cant stop spending money on it :D.

Its a 2009 R line Candy White 1.4 twincharged with manual box running on Revo's incredible stage 1 software.

I did the following mods through the years:

- Scirocco R catback exhaust (removed the mid silencer)
- Golf R Intercooler
- VW Racing CAI
- GFB Dv+ (using it without the main spring atm due to fault codes - still unexplained, working on it)
- H&R -35 mm lowering springs
- 12 mm wheel spacers
- Using NGK SIZFR6B8EG (03C905601B) plugs and changing oil every 5-6000 km (Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 - 5W 30).

Following mods to come:

- Bilstein B8 sprint shocks
- 19" VW Racing alloys
- Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres
- 100 cell downpipe
- Revo Stage 2
- Bigger brakes (345mm from the Scirocco R)

The engine was rebuilt in 2012 due to a timing chain failure, the previous owner managed to repair it in a VW dealer for almost no money at all, no idea how he done that :D. Since then the engine runs perfetcly, no missfires. No lumply idle.

I did a lot of research on this engine, mostly for its known problems. I must be very lucky because i had no trouble at all trough my 3 years ownership even with the stage 1 software. I had it done by a revo dealer in Romania, the car made 233 bhp and 314 nm torque. I think the dyno was a bit too optimistic, i think the engine runs around 210-220 hp MAX. Still happy with the results tho. I would recommend to anyone.

Cheers,
SKGR

Yes, with H&R lowering springs. Cant wait to fit the bilstein B8's because the ride is very hard and harsh on the OEM shocks atm :\.

Your babe looks nice,i had the same software revo stg 1 for 100 octanes gas for like 4months.Then i had a piston damage because of bad fuel.I remaped it after changing that piston just in case it was revo's software related.Since then i ve traveled like 90k kms at stage 2 making 240-250 hp.

Time for a quick update.

Was lucky enough to get my hands on some proper lightweight alloys (18" TD pro race 1.2) for a good price , and also my AP coilovers finally arrived from awesomegti.

Cant wait for spring to come and will be fitting all the new parts :).

Its well worth it. After i got my 1.4 twincharged my friend also bought a Scirocco but with a 2.0 tsi engine... It was much quicker i was so jealous... so i decided to remap my engine. I did a few unnecessary hardware updates wich you dont realy need for a stage 1 tune, like bigger intercooler or the cold air intake or a catback exhaust. Thats why i say its a "stage 1+" status atm. Right now my car produces 233 hp /310 Nm so i can easily keep up with a 2.0 tsi scirocco (just had a race with a slighty modified 2009 Opel Astra VXR (was around ~250 hp) and we were neck a neck from 80 to 190 km/h he only beat me with half a car lenght so i am very pleased with the results :D).

As i said i am planning to go stage 2, but its very hard to find a downpipe for a 1.4 twincharged with a sportscat. Maybe i will get one custom made, but that takes time. I expect a bit more torque (from 310 Nm to 350-360 Nm), will definitely keep you guys updated if i done it :).

Could you elaborate on the engine build? Which parts, how much did it cost etc.

I'm really interesting doing it myself in order to use revo's stage 1 without worrying that I might brake something, haha.

Time for a little update.

My little 1.4 runs fine, absolutley no problem since the stage 1 tune. Finally had the money to go a little further and ordered a few new parts for my car.

New parts will be installed very soon:

- Big brake kit: 340mm TTS discs with 4 pot brembo calipers (Audi RS3)
- Forge Twintercooler
- Sigma 6 short shift kit
- TMG performance turbo inlet pipe
- Couple of powerflex bushes (Transmission & Engine mounts)
- KW StreetComfort coilovers (I got AP ones now, they are not bad for the price but the ride can be very hars on bad roads... "you get what u pay for").
- New wheels: Custom made Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.3 in antrachite 8.5 wide and ET 35 so i dont have to use spacers anymore..
- AND finally a downpipe with a 200 cell HSJ cat from BullX -> time for revo stage 2 baby :))))

Will post some new pictures when all the parts arrived & installed. For now i got some nice pictures from last summer evening :)

Cheers,
Gabor

Looks sweet! I'm so curios about the TMG turbo intake, because it's also on my wishlist.
One question... Why do you want to use a twin intercooler setup, rather than the S3 intercooler/uprated intercooler? So much more space for the turbo to fill with the twin intercooler.

@Paradox - i know its not for everyones taste but i do like a motorsport style wheels, they are Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 18” and ET 41 i got them for a very low price...these will be my winter wheels after the new ones arrived.

@spuf - i am running an updated intercooler now from a golf 7 R, and its not very effective if i am honest... based on feedbacks the frount mounted coolers are the best choice for stage 2 1.4 twincharged cars, also the summers are very hot in hungary. I am not worried about the increased turbo lag, had a chat with forge motorsport engineers and they told me it shouldnt be a problem as they tested these coolers on their project cars. You can have twintercooler from AIRTEC too for a bit lower price.
