Rust on door sill opening

Post by Alcatraz2016 »

Hi guys

I'm a new Scirroco owner
It's a 2009 tdi 170

I've owned the car for almost a month.

It's a fvwsh car, from one supplying Dealer from new.

I have noticed it's suffering from paint wearing on the tonneau
end of the door sill opening.
It's being caused by the door seal striking the sill and over
time it's rubbed through the drivers side causing small area of rust.

VW U.K. Have called today to say the supplying Dealer will not give a good will gesture (as I've spent no money there as a customer) nor will VW U.K. As they have not seen this issue before.

I've a car that's been maintained from new by one supplying Dealer who won't help.
They are a 5 hr round trip away from.

Has any one else here had this issue, or am I just the most unlucky owner.

My local approved Vw body shop who inspected my car tell me this issue is present on VW T5s.

I will try to post a picture but the last post I made failed!

Any replays will be appreciated

Thanks

Got the same problem with mine ... also a 2009 / 59 reg ... I caught it early by cleaning up and then using touch up paint.

Ideally it needs some clear protection film to prevent the rubbing.

VW have a 12 year anti corrosion warranty so they should be fixing any rust free of charge. Get in touch with VW customer services

Thanks guys

Vw customer service said they knew nothing of this issue...and washed there hands to the issue.
Which is exactly the reason why I joined this forum to see if there was anybody else with this issue.

Yes I agree helicopter tap is the way to go.

Please keep me posted as Vw uk and the main Dealer my car was serviced at don't want to help!

My car is shadow blue metallic and a 59 plate.... seems too much of a coincidence that hey!!

All VW have banged on about was a mechanical year warranty and 12 guarantee was only to cover
corrosion from inside out.!.!

It's the secondary water seal on the door that is rubbing the paint off the sill.

I hope we can help one another on this issue

Cheers

So I've decided to sort the rust issue myself before it got any worse, Ive managed to catch it in time...

Had a local paint shop make a exact colour match rattle can and spent time over the weekend cleaning up the affected areas using different stages of emery cloth.
filler primer, and top coat (I'm not using clear coat as I'm using 3M Helicopter tape)

Colour match is bang on, where my repair work is there is a small dry edge window but will look no worse with 3M Helicopter tape applied over the top (still waiting for tape to be delivered from ebay).

Over all I'm happy with the result, its hardly noticable and I know it will last now for years...

Better still its cost around £35.00 to fix myself and I've plenty of materials left over, as well Ias brushing up on my painting skills.
My local bodyshop wanter £400+vat to fix the issue.........so to find mydelf in this situation I've managed to fix it for very sensible money.

As free advice keep an eye out for this issue because there WILL be other cars out there affected...

Good luck

Had this problem on my 2011 TSI - just a small mark down to the primer caused by the door rubber seal on the sill that was sorted with a touch up brush and polish. These doors are quite heavy and a good fit normally so only need to drop a fraction for the rubbing to start on the paintwork.
