Coolant loss

Post by Mltyson89 »

Over the past few weeks my coolant has been draining over the space of a week. Overnight there is no pool of water so I'm sort of lost what the problem could be?
Any ideas??

I had this on my R32 and it turned out to be a porous block which developed a pinhole between one of the coolant channels and the outside world. Wasn't easy to find and ended up with VW replacing the engine at their expense after 4 years of ownership.

Check around the engine bay for a dried pinky white residue for a clue to where it's leaking. Also check the radiator and the carpets just incase the heater matrix is leaking.

Also worth getting the coolant system pressure tested to confirm there is definitely a leak.

Common to leak from CTS (on LHS of engine) and bottom corner of rad.
Add a UV dye to the coolant and use a UV light to look for external leaks.
