Scirocco 1.4 tsi 160bhp MISFIRE

Post by Jay420 »

Hi Fellow Roccors,
Ive got a 2010 scirocco 1.4 tsi 160 bhp. Bought it a year ago with 40000 miles on it and it after 2 months of usage the car started having misfires and unresponsive throttle. The car was diagnosed with injector faults, timing chain stretching and intake manifold flap fault. After a long faught battle with the dealership where the car was bought, they finally agreed to pay for the repairs and two weeks ago the car was released after having all these issues allegedly sorted. But a a few days of driving the misfires came back along with the EPC light. Took ot back to the garage and they said an injector coil was to blam and has been changed. But yesterday the same thing happened again. And im getting a annoyed by this now. Does any one of your fellows have a fix for the misfire issue that the scirocco has.

The fix is usually a new engine. Mine has had one but only after the first one blew. And before it blew they'd tried the same things they're doing to yours (coils, injectors etc). The problem is the damage the misfire does to the piston rings, and scoring of the cylinder walls. Have they looked to see if any of the cylinders is losing compression?

Apparently the later revision of the same engine (post 2012/2013 - I'm not sure so I've just started a thread to ask about mine!) has stronger pistons that can withstand the punishment from what is quite a powerful engine for its capacity. Great engine though, when it works!

You might want to do a bit of reading around on this forum about just how many people are experiencing this misfire (it goes back to around 2010?) - and then take a view on whether the dealer who sold it to you should've known? I'm no expert on whether you might have a case there.

Thanks for the reply bud. Wow a new engine?
Ive actually done quite a lot of reading in this and other fora. but none of them have a definitive answer on how to fix. But yeah the weak pistons is mentioned in a lot of places.
Well lets see. I might be going back to the dealership and discuss whats next.
Thanks

Hi All
Apologies for hijacking Jay420's post
I own a workshop specializing in BMW and MINI, we do the odd vw and Audi etc.
A customer of ours had a misfire in his Scirrocco 1.4tsi, found car had piston failure, did a complete rebuild with no shortcuts taken. Car has being running perfectly for 6 months.
Now the cars oils consumption has slowly started to increase and has a good puff of oil smoke from exhaust in morning. found intake manifold and charge pipes soiled with oil. So naturally i assumed the turbo seals are starting to go.We have reconditioned the turbo but the inlet manifold still has a bit of oil soiling. Are PCV common failures on these engines?
I am bit baffled with this engine, so thought i should ask you guys.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
