Was it Waxed

Post by Dan Fitz »

Evening all,

was a little curious to find out when everyone recieved there Roc was it already waxed and cleaned or would you recommend giving it a wax after its first wash. Little curious as I want to preserve the paint work and as I live near the sea and lots of nice trees that love to harbour birds and sap.

Sorry if its in the wrong section.

I believe mine was as the water was beading well, same effect you get when a car is waxed. if you are unsure you can always ask the dealer..

Defiantly, I thought mine looked ok when I picked it up but after a good polish and a couple of coats of quality wax it was much better plus it makes the flies easier to wash off at this time of year too.

Check out this site its great for car care info - http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/

A coat of Mer once a month on the wheels and door handles, and every 2 months for the whole car stops anything sticking to it (brake dust on wheels, squished flies etc). In between I wash with Simoniz wash and wax.

First thing I did when I got home was to wash it (even though it was clean) and apply the first coat of Mer, and it looked better than it did at the dealership.

Mer is a canuba wax based polish. Polishes without wax are generally abrasive and should be avoided if you dont have a good layer of wax on first, Mer is not one of those, it leaves a great coat of wax on the car, and brake dust cannot stick to the wheels, if treated.

Buy it in Costco if you're a member, it's half the price you'll pay elsewhere. Its the best stuff i've found at a sensible price - i'm sure the detailers will rave about some £80 a bottle stuff, but for me this is as good as sensible money gets.

Sounds like good stuff Maisbitt (Halfords have got 3 for 2 on cleaning products at the mo too) might need to stock up ready for when the car arrives.
