Noise from under the car.

Post by Hollygttdi170dsg »

Hi everyone,
I'm having a really annoying issue with a high pitched whine coming from under the car. It happens when I'm moving and when sat idling. It's not related to RPM or braking, or what position the DSG is in. It sounds the loudest just under the car on the drivers side just below the drivers seat. It's like a high pitched constant scream. Cars driving fine, no other symptoms at all. It is intermittent and I thought it was only when the car was warm, but I've heard it occasionally from cold too. Sometimes I can get it to stop if I move the car forwards just a bit, and I've not heard it when parked up a hill. It's driving me insane, I'd rather run my fingernails down a chalkboard! Does anyone have any idea what the culprit might be, before I take a hammer to it! Haha thanks for reading, I hope you can help.

It's funny you should mention fuel pump. Thinking back, it started after I filled up twice at a jet petrol station. I have only used shell diesel before this. I've now topped it up with V-power diesel and it's not happening as much. I'm going to top it up again and see what happens. Today it only seemed to happen when I let off the accelerator when slowing down, but not braking, so could it possibly be the clutched pulley on the alternator?
