Removable Tow Bar

Post by Boyzie27 »

Hey guys,
I'm looking to get a tow bar fitted to my R but I don't want it on there full time as it looks horrid!!

Has anyone ever had a detachable bar fitted to theirs and if so how much please?

Cheers

The Roc is not homologated to take a tow bar.

It may be physically possible but legally it's not. RTFM

As said the MK3 Scirocco is not type approved / homologation to tow, hence why no towing weight is specified in any documentation. If you were to have an accident while towing I suspect you would be on very dodgy ground with both the Police and insurers.

But surely joe public wouldn't know this so if was to go to a respectable company to fit one and they did then "if" that were to happen then they would be liable? Summers coming, I need to tow a jet ski!! I didn't even think to look into that when I bought the car, didn't cross my mind once!!

Removable Tow Bar

Any respectable company would know the Scirocco is not licensed to tow so wouldn't fit one. Any less respectable might ignore the rules of course.

I hear what your saying 100%, but it wouldn't be dangerous and is more than capable to tow? I've seen smaller less adequate cars towing?

You say it wouldn't be dangerous, but there is a reason its not licenced to have a tow bar, not because they forgot to do it. If anything happens whilst your towing, and an accident is caused, you would most likely be in the brown stuff mate.

Cheers guys I hadn't realised it wasn't licensed to tow.
I've got the car now and it's amazing. I can borrow a work vehicle when I need to tow (only 2-4 times a year for a small sailing boat) so it's not a major problem! :)
