Hi all, I'm currently in the market looking at scirocco's and wanted some first hand experienced reviews, I'm
Looking at either the 1.4tsi or the 140 2.0tdi, I cannot warrant the 170 tdi so that's out the question, but I've also read there is a 122 and a 160 1.4tsi is that correct?
I currently have the golf gtd as a company car and a mk1 Audi TT 225 Quattro, Im moving jobs and have to get rid of both cars, my work is only 6miles from my house and I make regular trips to the local city 20miles, the only other normal distance driving I do is to the other halfs mums which is 70miles and only 10 of that is dual carriageway, what's people thoughts on what engine is most suited? I'd also like to have it stage 1 asap then possibly a few other bolt on upgrades but in no hurry, being 21 and with a crash under my name insurance is a player in this, tax I'm not to worried about.

interesting question best answer I can give, look at what the GTD currently is, and go from there, I drive a 140 2.0 GTD and love it, and that's coming from my previous car that was a Mk4 Golf 1.8T Mapped to 180
Also as your insurance is probably going to be maybe problematic, I'd just look at the models you're likely to buy then get insurance quotes based on those models. this is highly likely to change your opinion.

If your going stage1 then this will take a 140 tdi to a 170 or thereabouts. Considering the additional price of insurance and costs of mods you would be better off just getting a 170 to start with

What sort of economy would the tsi bring compared to the tdi? Currently in my golf I'm getting 30mpg to work if I'm lucky the car doesn't even get to running temp it's that short of a drive unless I have to defrost it.
The Audi I can never get above 25mpg no matter how I drive it, I've done some insurance quotes and surprisingly a stage 1 tsi or tdi is cheaper than a stock 170 on money supermarket, if I do say max 100 mile trip would a petrol be better off? What sort of miles per tank would you get from either? And cost to fill them up? Does one have more service costs than the other?

my 140tdi costs me from empty about £65 to fill (0 miles left in the tank),
I get around 500-575 miles out of it.
but then my commute is 30 miles, and it's predominantly motorway so I'm going to have the better economy than your 6-mile trip
actually, I drive motorway all the time, I do 300miles average a week and then I keep doing like 200 miles in the weekend! and that's only 2 trips! my car is gonna have no value left when i sell it lol!
I get around 500-575 miles out of it.

Don't buy diesel, nor 1.4. Get 2.0 tsi

Should definitely entertain the idea of a 2.0 tsi. Very reasonable to run - although as you mention insurance may be a little on the tricky side. Remap will see good power as well

For some type of cars diesel just doesn't suit. Imagine some roadster with diesel. Blah. Rocco has some sporty spirit, where high RPMs are expected and the most important - sound. Diesel is perfect for SUVs, trucks, or big 4 door saloons.

Indeed, never driven a decent BHP diesel have you lol the rocco is fine as a diesel and as I posted above my economy figures are a good reason for that, 3-500miles a week in a petrol, no thanks.

Quite many cars, but indeed not many "decent" diesels, mostly 4 cylinder.

I do 300 miles a week in a 2.0 TSI DSG... M60/62 in rush hour so pretty much stop start for my entire commute and I'm averaging between 32 and 35mpg. oh and I have a seriously heavy foot lol
Don't get me wrong if I could justify it, I would have an R all the way. I do miss the grunt I had in my old 1.8T Mk4, I just don't get the negativity of diesel,
realistically a 180 2.0 TSI DSG is 0-60 in 7.4 the 184 2.0 TDI does it in 7.5 then the only other main performance gain is more torque in the Diesel,
SO back to the OP, as you have said Drive them both to see what you think, make sure you get accurate mileage figures (not the dealership ones)

Thanks for the replies, I haven't checked insurance for a 2lt but I can already see it being heavy, the tax is another thing the 1.4 is 145 a year but 2lt is 240 if I'm right? I'd love an R as well but I doubt I'd be able to get one until 25 and it's been 5 years since my crash.
