Test drove a Rocco this afternoon and now must have one!

Well I've been lurking on here for about a week now and the temptation has been growing majorly! So this afternoon I marched into my nearest (helpful) dealership and had a test drive in a blue 2.0 TSI GT which I loved...

My current car is a 55 reg Seat Leon Cupra R with 225ps so the 200ps lump was slightly less powerful than I'm used to but not that you'd really notice... driving position in these cars is great and the quality of finish and features is excellent. I got home a few hours ago and have been posting for sale ad's for my LCR all over the net ever since

I'll probably order my Scirocco as a company car though so can only have the 170TDI which I hope will be nearly as much fun as the petrol GT. I would be interested in peoples experiences of the TDI lump as being such a new option there is very little knowledge on the net.

Options wise, I'd like candy white, 19'' rims, Truffle leather, Dynaudio, Xenons, and the panoramic roof. Parking sensors would be a bonus but not essential as I'm used to the poor rear visability in the LCR

Any pics of Rocco's with this colour combination would be greatly appreciated - I have found a few but no really good ones so far!

Anyway, thanks for reading - I can tell it's going to be a long time to wait for the new car but can't wait for it to get here!

Was the Cupra R a MKII or not - as I had a MkII Leon and rear visibility was miles better than the Scirocco.

I thought about the 170 TDI but the test drive was the 140 engine, which for me commuting to work and back across city and occasional longer journeys is fine for me. I'm probably used to this engine size though since my other half's Passat is a 140 TDI and my old Leon was also a 140 TDI - hmmm, I'm seeing a pattern here.

I'd recommend the parking sensors, if only for the funky display on the radio LCD - but that's just the child in me

lol I know what you're saying - it's the knowledge of the screen display thats really sold them to me!

My Leon is a mk1 (see pic below) the visibility is probly better than the Rocco but having parked one toady I'm doubting I'd struggle... hmmmm decisions decisions - if anything in my spec has to go then it will have to be the sensors before anything else

If you get parking sensors, make sure they're factory fit and not some retro fit that won't give you the graphical display (just the audibles).

Theres someone on the vwaudi forum who was duped by their dealer. Paid full list for an off the shelf audible system that was retro fitted by the dealer, who put the sensors in the worng place on the bumper and created a blind spot.

He was under the impression that he was getting factory fit at time of order placement.

The parking sensors are great - I nearly didn't go for them, but a dealership allocation grab (Scirocco within 2 weeks of order!) had them on which forced my hand, and now I wouldn't do without.

Jc74 on here had the same problem with his 'Roc. They fitted parking sensors at the dealer and ballsed it up and created a blind spot! Factory fit all the way

i'm with you dub, initially i thought about parking sensors but then i found it was actually quite easy to reverse park on my test drive so think i'm just going for the standard model

The sensors are good for the side detection of the rear too (as it swings around). I would never have gone for the sensors on a Golf (last 2 cars were Golfs), but the rear view is excellent. The Scirocco's is poor in comparision, one bumper scrape saved, and that parking set up will pay for itself

The above thread details the parking sensor issue with non-factory fit - though it seems it was a combination of a faulty sensor and badly angled. Has been fixed now so no blind spot.

The thread also contains various pictures of parking sensors so you can get an idea...

Personally I find the sensors very handy for low bollards and other such small items which can easily be missed due to the large blind spots, meaning you don't have to look quite so hard.
Though I've had them on every car in the last 8 years, so am very used to them.
Very good for picking up pedestrians who walk scross behind and kids who sometimes run out behind the car whilst you're reversing...

It's another what I personally consider 'must have' feature and have had specced it in every car in least 8 years or so too.

I tend to leave the cruise control switched to the on position. I press set to set it at the speed limit, then you can still accelerate to over take, and brake to go slower and disable it. You can then press the resume button to go back to original speed.
I find this very useful around me where there are absolutely hundreds of speed cameras. Also good on long trips, since it gives your legs a bit of break. I've managed to 6 hour non-stop journey thanks to the cruise control.
