Bluetooth Module Question?

Post by MBUK1000 »

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum and have recently bought a 2010 VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI. I believe it has the RCD510 head unit installed as well as a factory hands free kit. I own an LG G4 smartphone. It will connect to my car, however; many other phones will not connect (iPhones etc). In addition, when my phone is connected, the car 'borrows' my phones signal over Remote SIM Access Profile (rSAP). This means, I cannot use my phone as a Sat-Nav, as its signal has been taken by the car. Finally, I can't seem to play music through my car speakers via Bluetooth.

I've done a bit of research. From my understanding, I've got an old Nokia Bluetooth module installed. That wont connect to newer phones, or phones that don't support rSAP. I've also heard that newer Bluetooth modules can also create a WiFi hotspot through my phone (This would solve the signal issue).

Is there a way to fit a new module, so I can pair various phones, play music through Bluetooth and use the car as a WiFi hotspot?

I would really appreciate all the help I can get! Is it as simple as plugging in a new Bluetooth Module? Or will it also require coding through VCDS?

Thanks in advance!

When I purchased my car, it came with an RNS 510 unit installed. I did not have access to the 'phone' menu (pressing the button would mute sound) and very limited bluetooth functionality (my car would act as a 'headest' for my phone wirelessly but nothing else). Checking under the seat I found I had the bluetooth module "5P0 862 335 B". I'm unsure if this was an original part or retrofitted/swapped in the life of the car, however I did know it wasn't suitable!

I did some research and purchased a VW Premium Bluetooth interface "3C8 035 730 B". The module was plug and play; instantly unlocking the PHONE and BLUETOOTH menus, and allowing full bluetooth functionality and control for an Iphone 6.

A quick check here reveals your phone *should* work with your current head unit & provide full compatibility...

http://webspecial.volkswagen.de/telepho ... /functions" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Check to see if your phone should be compatible with your system

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... trofitting" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Listing of code numbers for bluetooth modules (check for those with 'YES' across the board for full functionality)

Possible suggestions for full bluetooth functionality:

- 5N0-035-730-D (2010)
- 3C8-035-730-B (2011)
- 3C8-035-730-C (2012)
- 3C8-035-730-D (2013)+ Wifi support
- 3C8-035-730-E (2014) + Wifi Support

There is nothing to suggest that you *have* to pair up the module to the year of your car, however I took a punt and matched the headunit with a 2011 model and the results were spot on.

As for WIFI compatibility, I may be wrong but I believe this is specifically for the new media centres present in the Mk7 Golf Platforms which have a degree of internet access. The older units simply aren't set up for this.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

I'm not sure exactly what model Bluetooth module I have currently, I will have a look later.

I can use my car as a 'headset' too, but I can also see my contacts and texts etc. The thing that frustrates me the most, is not being able to play music via Bluetooth. I have thought about buying a cheap iPod to leave in my car, connected via the MDI cable.

I'll speak to my local VW dealer about buying a Premium Bluetooth interface (Or look on eBay). When your phone is connected, does it sill have signal? Or does the car still 'borrow' the signal?

It's a shame about the WiFi Hot-Spot, maybe I'll go for a full on Head Unit upgrade one day! Cheers for all the links and model numbers too!

Yeah, the 'no bluetooth music' thing was doing my nut too!

As far as I'm aware, the car 'shares' the signal with the phone in my instance. I'm not 100% sure as I have a separate Satnav function on the media unit which I use in place of the Iphone's facility; however signal can definitely be used as I often stream with Spotify & the misses/copilot have used YouTube while connected to the car's Bluetooth service

The dealership I went to when asking about this weren't the most helpful; there was a lot of fluff about 'oh it can't be done' or 'it would be prohibitatively expensive'...complete codswallop. £150 box and plug it in. The dealership might not be too tech savvy; trust the numbers and you should be good to go!

That sounds promising.

Yeah, I too went to my local VW dealer about this. They said they hadn't come across the problem before and just suggested it might be my phone. Will have a look around on eBay for a replacement unit.

I did find out the model number of my current unit though - 5N0 035 730 B

Replacing the module is simple, it is just plug and play underneath drivers seat. carsystems.pl sell modules, and will explain what they do in regardings to wifi hotspot etc

Tbh I asked a similar question when I was doing my research and got a similar response.
I got told it was:
A - My phone
B - Not possible on my car
C - Prohibitively expensive
Reading between the lines the answer is more simple; "we're not too sure around our electrical systems". Just would be nice if they SAID that!

Anyhoo, looking at the breakdown of your module's systems it explains the situation perfectly...

5N0-035-730-B
"UHV-Premium Novero HT-2"

PR Code - 9ZB/9ZU
Protocol - DDP/BAP
3G - No
Hands Free Profile - No
Phone Book Access Profile - No
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile - No
Remote-SIM Access Profile - Yes
Start Of Production - 22/2009

So your BT module can pull your SIM contacts and take over some control function of the phone, however it cannot support a 3G connection (Hence your signal dissapears into the ether) and does not have the ability to make Hands-Free Calls, access the Phonebook information to 'make use' of it or interact with any media-based information to allow it to play music.

These modules all have 'YES' in the right boxes and *should* be what you're looking for. I opted for the 2011 3C8-035-730-B and it quite literally plugged into the cable under the seat. Job done :D

Here's an example on the 'Bay for £100. All the code numbers match up & doesn't look like its been bounced or anything dodgy. Seller stipulates that all items are sold in working condition so you're covered on that front. I'd take a punt on this one, worst comes to it you can sell it on.

Thanks for the advice. Apologies, I didn't see your reply straight away. Missed out on buying that Bluetooth Module on eBay. Seemed like a decent price too. Will keep an eye out for one and let you know the results!

Great News Everyone!

I managed to buy a '3C8 035 730 B' Bluetooth Module. Got it from a seller on eBay for £100, managed to knock 50 quid off the original price!

It arrived today and I am pleased to say it has solved all my problems! :)

I can play music through my speakers, use the cars hand-free system and still use my phones signal for a SatNav.

I haven't tried it with my Girlfriend's iPhone yet, but I'm sure that wont be a problem either.

Thanks for all the help and advice! I couldn't be more grateful!

On the contrary... I now have an obsolete '5N0 035 730 B' Should anyone want it.

How much are you looking at for the old unit

I have the Bury Bluetooth unit, and it is currently not working with my new phone (OnePlus 3) so was going to look into fitting a bluetooth module, but as i don't currently have a bluetooth module under the seat, i was looking for a cheap way to try it out and see if i could self fit the module without having to spunk out £150 on a unit and finding it doesn't work

Hello I know it’s an old post but I’m new and it’s a minefield if where to start. I think I may be looking for a 3C8-035-730-B (2011) Bluetooth module but can’t seem to find any on eBay. My issue is I have just got a 2010 VW sirocco GT 170 TDI and it’s got the RCD510 screen I think from reading the forums. It has the phone button and steering wheel controls and new white computer screen and voice to speak burton however it just mutes the radio. Will getting the above module enable me to make hands free calls from the screen and also stream music from my IPhone XR ? Thanks in advance
