Just had a rebuilt engine

Post by Liamcatt »

Timing chain jumped on my 10 plate 1.4tsi Rocco at 61k miles

Had a full engine rebuild as it turned itself into a bag of spanners.

Cost me £3650 for full rebuild and labour, got sent some pictures from the garage I thought I would attach for you all but they're not the best

On the plus note, the car drives like a dream now :hyper: :hyper:

'Nice and easy 2 minute job' - she just needs an oil change sir!....

Glad you got it sorted buddy, and sorry to hear it went horribly wrong in the first place!

Can see the tell tale signs in your last pic - intake valves smashed into the pistons, its always the intake valves on this engine that hammer into the pistons if the timing chain fails/slips.

Assume you managed to get away with just new valves?...obviously most of the expense comes from labour!, and a chunk from all the gaskets, seals, bolts etc.

Pretty much new all over, pistons, rings etc.

Luckily I get some staff discount through a family member for the labour so I was paying 25hr labour instead of 75 at Halfords, every cloud!

Thats insane.

its really bad that VAG dealers dont offer any good will or help with the faulty parts!

I recently had mind done about a month ago as a safety proceedure

Did you not look into second hand engine?
And then change the tensioner for the latest version?

New engines always fun...tight to run in.
