Morning!
My aircon is making a really annoying whining / whiring noise whilst driving slowly.
If I turn the aircon off and leave the fans on the noise stops.
Any ideas?
if it helps, its a 10 plate 2 Tsi GT?
Cheers
Matt

I bet the aircon clutch is slipping ... check the bolt that holds the clutch on to the splines on the aircon compressor.
Left hand side of engine bay... look down past the auxillary belt ... and shine a torch...
Start car, turn on aircon and watch the centre bolt on the pulley - does it spin at the same speed as the pulley?
If not - you have a problem.

Did you check it?matthew.f.young wrote:Thanks buddy!
If there is a problem, you can buy new clutch / bolt for £30... most garages will want to replace the compressor which is ££££!

is it just a case if tightening it up if it has come loose?

If it's come loose, tightening may fix the issue. But two points here to consider...matthew.f.young wrote:is it just a case if tightening it up if it has come loose?
- the bolt has come loose and worn the threads on the bolt, therefore tightening it up (if possible as the shaft will just spin round upon tightening) will only fix the issue short term.
- If the bolt has come loose, it is likely the clutch splines have sheared off hence the noises. Therefore you will need a new clutch and bolt.
If anyone needs a clutch, let me know as I have a spare.
