I went with the 70s as well, despite not actually being born then. Reasoning being basically the same as CTR really. Additions to CTRs list that I'd make would be ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd (not big on their 60s psychedelic stuff though). Can't be a bit of early Disco either when you're feeling cheesy!
I know little to nothing of 40s music, and generally find most 50s and 60s stuff to be a bit too soft or just too off the wall later in the 60s. I appreaciate what the Beatles, Elvis and co did for modern music, but I've never really been a big fan of their stuff.
A lot of 80s music tends to put a smile on my face, but I don't tend to listen to it much.
The 90s I tend to associate very heavily with the rise of boybands, which I've never really been a fan of, but there were definitely a few rays of light e.g. The Prodigy, Nirvana etc...
Present day music is what I tend to listen to most now, just because there is always new stuff coming out. The majority is still a load of crap, but there is enough of it that you can always something that floats your boat
