Re: Good insurance company's?
Admiral seem to be competitive for the younger driver from what I hear.
Different insurance companies are competitive for different risk profiles so what's good for me is unlikely to be for you. Only way is to shop around and do the leg work.
And for reference there is no such thing as a good insurance company :-)

Re: Good insurance company's?
There are insurance companies with cheap premiums. There are insurance companies that pay out fairly after a claim. Common sense says they are unlikely to be the same companies. Which you think are good companies will change depending on whether you have the misfortune to need to make a claim.

Re: Good insurance company's?
As said admiral is pretty good. Was with them for 4 years until this time round when they was more expensive than Adrian flux. Come renew time admiral always quoted more than their sister companys like elephant. But would always price match.
Don't forget that there is a lot of things that will contribute to the cost of your insurance premium.
Where you live e.g. High low crime rate. Where the car is stored during the day etc. Where it is kept at night in a garage or on a road.

Re: Good insurance company's?
From working with motor insurance companies everyday, let me give you a word of advice; never go with Esure or Sheilas Wheels.
The best to go for is Ageas or anything they underwrite (Tesco, John Lewis etc). I've seen Admiral mentioned above and I was with them for a few years and have no complaints, although never had to use them for anything other than getting a stonechip filled in.
NB; by never, I mean NEVER.

Pray, please say why!!! I have been with esure on and off for about 5 years (have 10 years no claims). I dont want them to be a nightmare if anything happens.RisingBlue wrote:From working with motor insurance companies everyday, let me give you a word of advice; never go with Esure or Sheilas Wheels.

I'm thinking of going with Debenhams Personal Finance as they have offered some very cheap quotes. Any thoughts on them?RisingBlue wrote:From working with motor insurance companies everyday, let me give you a word of advice; never go with Esure or Sheilas Wheels.

They pay for as little as they can get away with. The normal setup is that they pay a fixed amount to the repairer per vehicle, which is around the £1000 mark (a bit more if you live within the M25) regardless of what the damage is. Combine this with penalties for replacing a damaged panel with a new one, then the repairer is forced to fill and staple as much as feasibly possible (and then some) and resorting to nonOE panels as a worst case scenario.Deniz94 wrote:

If your claim is a missing wingmirror on a Kia Picanto, then the repairer will love you because they're quids in. But if someone rear-ends your beloved Scirocco, the repairer and Esure will be looking to keep the cost down as much as possible at the expense of the quality of the repairs. The repairer is peed off because they are most likely losing money by working on your vehicle, and the customer is peed off because their pride and joy is not returned looking 110%.
I reckon if they could get away with it, Esure would provide every repairer with two rolls of duct tape and a paintbrush and resolve each claim that way

However, if you never need to make a claim, then the cheapest option will always be the best

Debenhams Insurance is just KGM with a different name at the top of the headed paper. KGM is underwritten by Midas, which is a good solid insurer. I've heard their customer service can be a bit cold, but from my end they run a fairly aggressive Total Loss Avoidance scheme, which means they try as hard as they can to keep your vehicle on the road if ever it's in danger of being written off.Dazarooni wrote: I'm thinking of going with Debenhams Personal Finance as they have offered some very cheap quotes. Cheers for your info and opinion RisingBlue, I think I'm going to go with them when my Roc arrives.

Re: Good insurance company's?
Admiral, elephant and diamond are all under the same banner. You'll notice on a comparison site that all three have similar prices in the search results.
If diamond or elephant are cheaper, just ring Admiral and give them the Diamond or Elephant quote number, they will recognise it, honour it or most of the time better it by a small amount
I claimed with Admiral......no problems!

Re: Good insurance company's?
Thanks for that info Rising blue; to me, that's quite a major issue ie if they cut corners for repairs. The only insurer I have had repair experience with is Aviva, and I think they were pretty good.
But their prices are so inconsistent over the years. I am sure they will be even worse, now that I will have a 20% increase in power

Re: Good insurance company's?
Well, I was hoping this day would never come!!! Someone has crashed into me and I need to claim off esure
...
I do hope it's hassle free cos the damage isnt too bad. Near side front wing, door and rear wing panel all scuffed and back on is buckled. I'd rather use a VW repairer as well, and I know they charge a fee for that. Wonder if it's worth it

Re: Good insurance company's?
@dimexi if someone hit you - you could chose to go via the third party and they're more likely to say yes to u using VW repairer as ultimately they'll be footing the bill so will limit costs and time in hire . Worth a go

Re: Good insurance company's?
Thanks for that Greg, that's what I am trying to do actually. I called esure, and they asked if I want to try and contact HIS insurance directly first, and I have done that. The only issue now is if he rejects liability (he accepted at the time).
So I will keep you guys informed of that

Throw in a few "innocent" but bloody awkward questions about your maintaining your VW 12 year anti corrosion warranty while you're at it

I have decided to go with a bodyshop that my local VW dealer recommended as being VW approved as I did what greg said and went via the third party route.
Car booked in for 11th of Oct, and I will have a hire car paid for while my car gets fixed. Their third party dept has treated me well tbf albeit a bit slow in getting going.
