Hi all,
I've never brought a brand new car before so forgive me for sounding dumb. I was originally going to order a Scirocco for January or February 2010. But due to the new number plate coming out March 1st I may as well wait for that. How do I go about getting this though? Do i just tell the dealer i'll be wanting the new plate when I order and get it after March 1st? I'll be looking to order it around October/November time...
Thanks in advance

i think you will have to order nearer march as the dealers will not give you a price in october for a march car

Yes they will mate, did for me on my MKV that I ordered 8 months before delivery, obviously the trade in price will be at the current value when you change. I do not think any dealer would turn their nose up at your deposit money. Just say I want to order a Scirocco (your specification) for delivery on a one zero plate ie you collect on 1st March 2010. They would probably order it to get it in a few weeks beforehand to sit in their compound in case there are any production delays. Its gonna be one hell of a wait thoughscirocco1974 wrote:i think you will have to order nearer march as the dealers will not give you a price in october for a march car

If it arrives mid Jan early Feb weeks before the new plate is out, you can get the dealer to keep it in storage for you at the compound - but you'll need to tell them to do that before hand - otherwise they will come out with some excuse later on saying they can't do it.

You need to remember that it's your money, so it's your call - explain what you want, and a good dealer should tell you when to order....if you've got a trade in, they'll probably estimate what your car will be worth when March comes round. Or you can do what I did and take a car from the dealer's stock - you haven't got control over extras, but on the other hand you can cut the waiting time (and I did save money - my trade in was due a service and road tax). But whatever happens, you have got to get one - best car ever!
