Re: EGR Valve Location
Hi, yes on my car there is a valve on the end of this stainless steel pipe.
I see this is different on your car. Mine is a modelyear 2010.
What year is yours green4rrow and Lugano? It doesnt look like it can be disconnected on the front Side indeed, looks like its clamped on.
So i suggest that you have something like this egr with both valves in one body on the back side of the engine?
Whats your engine code?

Re: EGR Valve Location
hmm i thought this might be the case which is annoying. I guess in the pic you've sent it is connected with the egr cooler.

The horizontal part is the cooler. Yes very anoying that they build it in such a stupid place almost not accesible.

Re: EGR Valve Location
I suspect his might be the same as mine, as i also couldnt see what the pipe (above throttle body) was going into before i removed the engine cover.
As mines not under warranty, what would my options be here? Would preferably want to avoid taking it back to VW, where possible, to be hit by a decent sized bill. Have heard others have been quoted up to £1000 (7-8 hours labour charge and part)

Re: EGR Valve Location
You can think about disable the egr system with a software remap, but i don't know if this is possible when this fault is active. This is the cheapest option.

Re: EGR Valve Location
thanks for your help Roy
Would the remap get rid of the engine management light as well? Do you have a link so i can see which remap it is i would need to get done? I'm based near Leeds
Have you noticed any difference in power/economy since you've have yours disabled? I've watched some videos showing contradicting info

Re: EGR Valve Location
That's the part im not sure of. You have to ask a remapper if this is possible with this fault active.
Im not from the UK so i can't help you with that. The name Revo is mentioned a lot at this forum.
You don't notice it directly if its disabled but you know the whole inlet manifold, intercooler stays clean and you don't have problems with these valves and glogging up. I didn't wait till that would happen.
I did the engine and dsg remap at the same time and they performed this egr disabling also.

Re: EGR Valve Location
Sorry Roy, been out for most of the day again, I've taken the engine cover off & i dont see any other egr valve unit there, I'm guessing its going to be on the back of the engine. If thats the case has anyone taken one of these off at home? & would it take a good few hours to do?

Re: EGR Valve Location
Also read on another forum about mk6 golf having egr on the back of the engine which when taken off can not be cleaned?

Re: EGR Valve Location
Ok where did you read that? Maybe it's possible to delete the fault code with disabling the egr as i wrote yesterday.
Or first contact the dealer if theres a recall for it.
I wouldn't spend that much money on it as you mentioned.
Refit a second hand part and disabling egr afterwards is also an option.

Re: EGR Valve Location
Some wrote on mse 'VW have advised that the EGR unit is located behind the engine. Therefore the whole engine needs to be removed to get to it resulting in the large 'labour' charge. Also, on the Mk6 Golf, they can not be cleaned (whereas they could on the Mk5) so therefore it has to be replaced.'

Re: EGR Valve Location
Hi
Engine doesn't have to come out but you do have to remove the dpf, your looking at around 3 hours to do the job and its a right pain if you haven't got a ramp

Re: EGR Valve Location
Anyone come across any decent videos on how to get to this part? or how to remove the dpf? Currently jacked mine up and doesn't look particularly accessible

Re: EGR Valve Location
Made an attempt to get to this egr valve, gave it up as a bad job, can see the stainless pipe half way down the back of the engine , but there's too many other parts crammed in the way above & below the egr valve. Didnt want to take the risk in case I got stuck. Shame there's no write up/video that shows egr valve removal from the back of the engine?

Re: EGR Valve Location
Message for Junkman, just curious as you say engine does not have to come out to remove egr, does the subframe have to come out for increasing better access?
