Wing mirror 'ripped off' - advice

Post by pappasmurf »

This morning I had a knock on my door. It was a bloke who was looking for the owner of a vw scirocco. That would be 'me'. His daughter hadn't closed a door right on his car resulting in the door swinging open and whacking my passenger side wing mirror off. Fair play to him for his honesty [emoji72] Surprisingly the only other damage I can see is a small scratch on the door glass. The mirror still functioned and wires were intact. He went to vw and ordered a new unit. He has to transfer the lense and the white plastic over. I was amazed at the corrosion of the body inside to be honest. Anyhoo.......how difficult is it to replace a wing mirror? Does the door panel have to come off to connect the wiring?

Thanks in advance

Wow that's very honest, that's brilliant!! Shame about your mirror, sadly i think yes you will have to take the door card off for the wiring, although its not something I have attempted. I'd love to tell you its as easy as it is in a Lupo as thats one bolt and removing a panel.

Yep the interior door card has to be removed....here's the workshop guide for removing the mirror, once the door card is off its simple, just one bolt:
