Help!
An annoying whirr developed on my 2.0 GT when having a 10,000 mile service
Its 5 months old. Noise worse when car cold or low on fuel.
VW have changed fuel pump under warranty but say the noise is unfixable as they can't trace it.
Can be best heard when switch engine off. Continues for a few seconds
always there when engine on. V annoying and pretty crap for a new @27k car. Any help would be lovely.
Going to escalate to VW customer services

Re: Name that tune!?
Things that run when the engine is off and ignition on (momentarily or otherwise), all these things are of course electrical:
-In tank low pressure fuel pump (whirring)
-Fan on RNS/RCD media player (whirring)
-Throttle body PWM modulated flap (makes a high pitch noise)
-Antishudder valve (same as TB, high pitch)....this is for TDI only.
-Coolant radiator fan(s)
-Cabin blower and servo actuators for various aircon flaps
Think that's everything that can make a noise when the engine is not running.
It does sound like the intank fuel pump - perhaps one of the fuel lines is resting against the chassis and transmitting the noise through the cabin.

Re: Name that tune!?
One thing omitted from that list is the electric auxillary water pump that keeps coolant circulating after switch off to prevent heatsoak

I've been suffering with the same problem, it started after a month or so after buying the car from new.
Dealer said it was the intank fuel pump, which was replaced yesterday, it made no difference, the whine is still there when the engine is running.
