TPMS retrofit cable too short?

Post by tim84s »

Hi all,

Tonight I tried to install the TPMS button I ordered some time ago from bold-sport.
Connecting the button was no problem at all, but then there is one long red wire, which is meant to be connected into the abs pump.. I routed it as been told, removed the battery to find the little thing, and tried to get it to the abs. I have no clue how others did it, but my cable seems to be like 30cm short? I can get it halfway behind the engine, but by far not reaching the connector where it is supposed to go..
Is there a difference between LHD and RHD cars? Are there more options to route the wire? Or do I try to extend the cable by soldering another piece of wire onto this one?

Greets and many thanks in advance,
Tim

Just extend it, mine was also too short. I think there is a wire guide behind the glovebox, but i ran it behind the clutch pedal.

Could be because the button was moved from in front of the gear lever to inside the glovebox so would be a different length.

Finally I found some time to finish the cable. I plugged it in the hole 35 of the abs plug, as described everywhere, and programmed in vcds, but I don't see anything new on my dashboard, and pushing the button doesn't do anything.. What did I do wrong?
Right now it seems I've put an extra switch in the car what lights up but doesn't do anything else..

Do you have a post 2009 car with white mfd?
I had the same problem with a 2010 model, i think that the esp switch is grounded when pushed in and the tpms needs 12v on the wire to the abs controller when pushed in. I connected a separate 12v wire to the switch and after that it worked.
Maybe you can measure it first.
What did you change with vcds? Can you enable tpms button installed in your instruments module?

Roy,
Mine is an early '09 car, with the red mfd.. With vcds I went in the abs control module (03 I think) and ticked the tpms box? Didn't know about another coding?

I'm not that far into car electronics, how did you add an extra 12V wire?

If you change the settings in vcds the warning light should be turned on or did you reset it right away with vcds?
I would try this first and check your coding.
