coolant leak help- 2010 1.4 (122)

Post by pappasmurf »

Today after a short motorway trip (bit of hard acceleration but nothing major) I noticed when sitting at some traffic lights, steam coming from under the bonnet :eyepop: and a smell of coolant. I lifted the bonnet and could see a small drip dropping down onto a hot part of the engine from the point (highlighted). Engine was too hot to investigate, but anyone advise what I can do. I haven't checked to see if anything can be nipped up yet

Thats the coolant feed line to the turbocharger.

It has either come loose or the metal washer needs to be replaced on it ( part number for washer: WHT003366, buy 2 if replacing as you will also need to replace the washer on the pipe below it, the return coolant line )
There's a T30 bolt just underneath where that pipe, and another meet the turbocharger. Ensure its tight - it should be tightened to 8 nm

Also check for any cracks in the coolant line or where it meets the turbocharger.

Thanks. I have just nipped up the bolt and got a bit 9f a turn on it. Took it for a spin and no leaks for now but I'll order the washers and keep an eye on it
