£50 TO FIT A BULB FOR FOG LIGHT? PLEASE ADVISE
Hi Guys,
I received a notification on the dashboard that the BULB for the FRONT FOG LIGHT is gone.
VW says it will cost £20 for the bulb and £30 to fit totalling £50
Is this reasonable as I never thought it could cost £30 labour to fit a bulb!!!
Please guys can you advise.
Thanks
Jayroc.

VW Colchester where I live don't charge fitting they charge for the bulb. Did my headlamp for <5 - I would do it myself for fogs, or go Halfords.

NO and NO! - not reasonable on any front.
Bulb costs a few pounds, fitting takes about 10-15 minutes.
Get bulb from eurocarparts (put your reg in).
Fit as per this video:

I recommend you heat the plastic front trim up a bit first, with a hair dryer for example - it will reduce the chance of clips breaking.

Bulb costs like couple of quid..
Fitting takes 5 mins.
£50 you could buy two new whole fog lights units and bulbs.

If it's not one of the bulbs that VW will fit free, then most dealers charge a minimum of 0.5hrs labour even if it a 5 min job in which case that would explain the relatively high cost.
As stated, change it yourself.
Halfords Noooooooooooo.

You should walk back in with a bag of balaclava's, tell them to put them on and then repeat what they have told you!jayroc wrote:Hi Guys,

This is a job you can definitely do yourself. Just do some searching on here and you'll find a how to guide or someone who will explain the process.
Then after you have done it yourself. Ask to see the manager of the VW branch and tell them you will never be bringing your car back to them and explain your reasons. I.e. extausionate prices, fitted yourself with no trouble.

If you pull the front grille out and towards the centre of the car at the same time it will come out pretty easily. The fog is then held in with three torx headed screws. And that's it, nothing more complicated than that.

Hi Guys - update!
I just wanted to let you know it was fixed yesterday for only £16, however , the garage said there is condensation and water in the unit and so it may not be long before the bulb will blow again. They said they drained as much of the water as they can but no guarantee as to how long it will last. Fingers crossed!
Thanks,
Jayroc

I also forgot to mention the garage said a new replacement fog light unit will cost about £120
which I'm not really in the mood for at the moment.

Can't believe you paid the £16 .
Takes literally minutes to swap. As shown in the video..
And a new unit definitely won't cost £120..
Think they are bending you over backwards.

I'm surprised they didn't insist you pay the mandatory inspection fee to ensure the bulb doesn't work...
