Hi guys,
So I recently bought a Scirocco GT 170PS DSG.
The only issue I have with it is that when I input my plate into the insurance sites it says it's a manual rather than automatic?
I've tried a few number plates from autotrader and they all state manual.
Do they know something that I don't?
There's a £600 difference if I change the car to automatic
Cheers, Alex.
There was a batch of manual 170 TDIs , mine included, which were put down incorrectly as DSGs when imported. If you check the V5 it will say S-A, which is semi-automatic. More importantly the emission value is correct for a manual so the tax is correct.
For insurance purposes you need to select the car manually as opposed to from the registration number.
I'm sure it can be resolved with DVLA but I've never bothered as life is too short.
I've had 3 scirocco's now and each time the V5 document has been incorrect. The first 2 cars I had DVLA had down as automatics when they were manuals, and my latest car they have down as a diesel when it's a petrol! I have written to both my dealer and DVLA pointing out the mistake but after 3 months of trying I have now given up! Even VW uk say they're unable to help me and only suggest I obtain written proof from my dealership - and for them to do this I will have to book my car in at the garage to have the engine examined!
Not quite the same but I registered a change of car when I bought my Scirocco with my insurance co. (Admiral) all good so it seemed.
Then I rang to change something else on my multi-car policy and they asked about my VW EOS !!! I told them I it was actually a Scirocco... apparently when they entered the reg. no it came up as an EOS... (same spec engine etc.) I've sorted it now but quite odd.
