... Because it supports my argument.
VW love to wiggle out of paying for corrosion claims. You only need to google this to see what I mean.
75% is a start though... I will be taking this all the way to small claims court if necessary.

Well done OCD glad you got it sorted, Defo agree on the wiggling ,
1 month after getting mine I had clutch problems , even though under guarantee they claimed I could be liable, too 2 weeks but got it paid for, they told me that they were doing it as goodwill gesture from vindis not vw
It goes in tomorrow ... Having had bad experiences with body shops before I've taken over 30 photos of the tailgate... Including paint thickness readings to tailgate and shut panel ...
They need the car for three days apparently, so all being well I collect weds.

I specifically asked them to leave them off ... I have them in a box in the boot ready to go back on ... But may just go gloss black VW badge and not put the rest on ... Looks much cleaner IMHO

My car goes to VW next month for tailgate repair. I was considering debadge and a black VW too! Did they supply brand new badges? Did you ask them to give you badges but leave them off? I'd like to do the same.

Don't let them repair it. Replace it.
Yes, they gave me brand new badges and they offered to leave them off until I inspected the repair.

I've still not heard back from a prestige dealer here in Edinburgh about arch rust appearing.
I've emailed a few times and been told someone would be in touch, even after getting a service from them were told someone would be in touch.
I've spotted the same rust on my car, I checked when this topic first appeared in October n there was no sign but now today after a clean and polish I've spotted bubbling under the paint. Another thing to mention when I get my warranty damper fitted.
Glad to hear people are getting it fixed but 3 weeks to get the car back?! That's not on!
Just returned to this forum after a short break (bought a BMW) - but have now ordered a new Scirocco (hence my return)
However, just noted your post and wanted to tell you about my post on 13th April 2012 - with an IDENTICAL problem - in the same area ! See the attached photographs.
My car was repaired (under warranty by VW - but the problem/rust returned within months.)
Sorry to bring this up again.
I`ve just had the same fault. Its been repaired but be warned - you don`t get a new tailgate!!!!! Its only repaired.
The edges under the bonnet was also bubbling 2 years ago and they said they had replaced the bonnet......but I`ve just checked it after getting the car back from the tailgate repair and the bonnet rust is back!!!!

BTW that repair is an utter bodge... I would reject that as condensation now has no way of getting out, so it will rust from the inside out.

The picture is from the bonnet which got replaced 2 years ago for the same problem then. (I`ve had the car from new)
They are saying it was a new bonnet and it looked like it when it came back but why would this happen again? They are going to put another warrenty claim in but I`ve got a feeling VW won`t agree this time and say its the dealers fault.
I also have a feeling we are seeing the corrosion issues starting to appear in the car. Mine is a 09 and is kept very clean and protected.
My tailgate had similar rot as to OP. They said they would replace depending how bad the rot was. This was advised by VW.
Now looking at tailgate you wouldn`t think there was a issue and I had been given a new one. Other past posts have stated that it would be replaced until they found out it had been only repaired. It all depeneds on how bad the corrosion is.
I took pics of the corners at the hinges which its not been fully painted or marks were there just to check whether it would`ve been a complete re spray but no they even said it was a repair authorised by VW once it got stripped back.
To me its a good job but rot is a cars cancer. You can fix it but it`ll come back eventually.

I will take a picture of mine later under the bonnet... I've not noticed any issues there and the car is now on 100,000 miles.
Apparently repair the first time is fine, but if happens again they usually replace. However, they screwed mine up completely by grinding through the panel edge, so had no choice but to replace when I kicked off at them.

So - if you're a 2nd hand owner of a car how does VW treat that?
Mine does have some rusting around one of the metal bungs. Not as bad as Mr OCD - but if VW are doing goodwill I'd like a new boot. I have a full VW service history and was considering putting it in for a VW full service this/next month for £300 odd, wonder if they'd chuck in a boot lid.

Simply put the car has a 12 yr anti-corrosion warranty... it is this you claim on. As long as the car has a full VWSH, it should just be a case of arguing...
It is only a little corrosion, then it is more likely it will be repaired. Mine was replaced as there is no way a repair would have been effective.
