Brief Power Loss
I had a strange experience today - driving down the M4, doing 70, and suddendly just for a second (literally) there was a loss of power and the bottom row on the display (just the bottom row) flash off and on and then the power came back.
This happened three times in the space of 5 minutes but hasnt happened again.
Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone have any ideas about it?
thanks - Andrew

Re: Brief Power Loss
Andrew - you got a DSG box? I know that some people with MK5 GTI's have experienced this but worse..Im sure someone will confirm this later. Could mean a trip to your dealer - as it will probably happen again

Re: Brief Power Loss
Andrew - no worries pall - however, I would check You Tube for footage of this. Type in DSG problem (with flashing lights or something like that!) and you may be surprised at how common this is.

Re: Brief Power Loss
thanks - well VW had it in for an hour yesterday, hooked it up to their computers and said they couldnt find anything wrong with it and nothing had been logged in the engine log either. It happened again today only this time I was sitting at traffic lights when it happened!
VW said that when it is in next week for its 1st service they will take a closer look!
Not impressed that something like that isnt even logged!!!

Re: Brief Power Loss
Andrew, Yes - Ive heard thats what happens. Im sure it to do with the DSG box trying to addapt to your driving style or something like that, especially if you have suddenly given it the beans after not doing so. Try the You Tube links and see what you find

Re: Brief Power Loss
been with the dealer for 3 days - they finally tracked the problem down to a faulty temperature sensor which was causing the problem. Its been replaced and so far so good!

Sudden rev surge with power loss
I experienced 3 episodes of power loss with rev surge while driving at 70mph on motorway 2 days ago. Possibly feint smell of burning in first (briefest) epsiode. First episode lasted 2-3 seconds, second epsiode 20 miles later 30 seconds, third epsiode , 3 miles later 2 minutes. All episodes in D mode, but no improvement when put it into manual. 20,000 miles, May 09 build.
Recovery vehicle to VW dealer - say no problem on computer or test drive. Anyone experienced similar ? To me seems to be a clutch problem, but with so much electronics could there be another cause of problem ? At present unwilling to drive car as do not want to be cause of multi-car pile up on return trip.
