Repaired roc bad fit on hood? Would you accept this?
Hi.
My precious Scirocco got smashed in the front while parked, I just got it back from repairs and there are a few things Im not happy about.
It got brand new parts from factory which is good, new front, new left front side "bumper" (or whatever you call it in English) and a new hood/bonnet.
But the fit of the hood is not that great, but I want to check with you guys if you would accept this?

Its a 2009/10 model so there is no warranty left, Its fully ensured and all that and its the Insurance-Company of the guy that smashed it that is paying everything. So what can I demand? What would you guys do?

Oh hell no, I would never accept that.
You need to go back and demand its done to the exact same standard as a it was - i.e. a factory fit.
I would also demand compensation for any time without the car, mileage to and from places for repairs.
A lot of Insurance companies use their own cheap ass repairers - where they have a deal for bulk repairing of cars. Usually they are awful, if you know a good place you can demand it gets done there and they pay for it, especially now they have made a botched attempt.

No, it's clearly sitting too proud and possibly a little too far over on one side. Straight away the gap between the wing and the bonnet should be the same as the A pillar, with the edge of the bonnet getting closer to the wing the further it gets to the front lights.
It just looks as though they've not quite adjusted the bonnet precisely, so hopefully is an easy fix, or just a little time spent on it. I understand they have to spend an amount of time at the factory adjusting the Scirocco bonnet, same thing with the CC, due to the unusual shape of the car.

That's not really acceptable in my opinion. That really needs addressing.
On a side note, it's not a massive process at the factory, alignment jigs are used. Probably only a 2m30s job. Then 4-5 minutes finessing once the vehicle gets into the finishing areas of the factory

Ok, that good to hear. My impression is that the hood is too big for the car, it sticks out on both sides, but maybe they can adjust these things? What do I know. Its an authorized Volkswagen dealer/repair shop here in Stockholm.

Surely the hood (bonnet) is a standard size? I wonder if they've brought the left side front/wing in too much and have compensated for the lack of width between the two fronts by having an bonnet overhang on either side.nizzon wrote:Ok, that good to hear. Yeah the bonnet came straight from factory, but you know I have a 2009 model and maybe the new ones are done in new machines etc, maybe they arent made exactly like they were back then? Hopefully im just paranoid and they can fix it.

AS silly as this sounds, Every single Scirocco (mine included) Ive saw doesnt seem to have a bonnet that fits properly, as you say the bonnet seems too big. I remember looking at a brand new 2013 model in the showroom and that looked the same?

Mine is a 2012 car and the bonnet sticks out over the wings about 2mm each side, nothing can be done about that.

OK, what a shame since I had a perfect fit on mine, hopefully they can correct it a bit. On the positive side I had like 100 small chips in the finish from stones on the old bonnet so its nice to get a new one.

The bonnets overhang a little. Its the design.
But yours is not aligned properly. The a pillar gap looks odd.
Also the gap running along the side panel.
Know anyone else with a Rocco near you? park them up and compare.
Must be some at the VW Garage?

Yes I have it at the garage now and they are going to adjust it but they said the same thing, it will hang over a bit on the sides thats just how it is. I guess we that didnt have any overhang bafore was just lucky. On a candywhite the overhang creates a shadow on the side bumper, you can see it on the third photo.

Re: Repaired roc bad fit on hood? Would you accept this?
So I got it back and there has been some adjustments but the driver side looks the same, its sitting too high so the gap is bigger than on the passanger side. Either they didnt get what I was talking about or they just cant adjust it better. Im hesitant to take it back again, I have been without my car for 3 months now and im sick of all this, but I cant stop looking at the gap.
So Im thinking about trying to adjust this myself. What do you think about that, is it hard? All screws seems very easy to reach. Looking for info on the net...

Does it really have a bigger gap looking from the side?

So I tried to adjust this myself, I adjusted the wings a few millimeter out and the left side of the bonnet 1mm down, its as low as it gets now. Right side is good, left side where it got hit is only ok I guess.
