Evening Chaps,
Looking for some information to a possible issue regarding a noticeable "grind" from the front end when first setting off or slowing right down to a stop that has recently started happening occasionally but not always.. Seemingly not related to being cold either as can sometimes happen when returning from a journey to a stop outside home
Had a search through forums and nothing described quite fits the bill so hoping someone has had something similar!
Immediate thoughts were possibly a front wheel bearing going but would this not be continuous and result in a humming etc. at certain speeds?
Car is a '58 2.0 TSI if that would matter
Any ideas before having a garage look at it?
Cheers
Grinding on first movement/slowing
Re: Grinding on first movement/slowing
This is not the 'gaiter' grind, observed when turning the wheel before starting off, I assume?

Re: Grinding on first movement/slowing
Just sounds like the normal process of the surface rust being wiped off the surface of the disc after the car has been sitting.
It's been really damp recently and it doesn't take long for the rust to develop on the surface of the brake disc.
If it's happening at other times then check your brake pads.

Was fairly sure it's not this but been out and checked, definitely not steering related no noise at all when steering before moving and then setting off (Naturally the noise didn't occur at all when I'm looking for something

Hoping this could be it..Cuprabob wrote:Just sounds like the normal process of the surface rust being wiped off the surface of the disc after the car has been sitting.

It is a mechanical grind that's for sure and has only occurred recently so could be weather related it just hasn't happened enough yet to determine a relationship.
Only thing that would make me think it wasn't is that it sometimes happens after a journey when car has been in use fully warmed and been braking etc.
